I don’t use the term “creeper” as a pejorative in this weekly post (after all, I’m highlighting players I think will give your teams a boost), but it still kind of feels wrong to put our subject and “creeper” in the same sentence. Let’s ameliorate, shall we?
One of the nicest (and largest) guys in baseball, week 14’s Creeper is Jim Thome. Traded over the weekend to the Orioles by the Phillies, he figures to see regular playing time against right-handed pitching at the DH position. He’s owned in 2.5% of ESPN leagues and 7% of Yahoo leagues. The Orioles are scheduled for 7 games – all on the road – in week 14, with 6 of them against RHP. Thome and his new team begin the week with a 4 game set against the Mariners in Safeco Field, and close the week with a 3 game set against the Angels in Angel Stadium. While both are pitchers parks, with Safeco suppressing offense by 5% and Angel Stadium suppressing offense by 2%, Safeco is pretty close to neutral for left-handed power, rating a tick ...
BEST OF MAXIM
Veteran hitter Jim Thome has been dealt to the Baltimore Orioles. The 41-year old slugger will assume a full time role as Baltimore’s designated hitter. Thome is hitting just .242 on the season with five home runs and 15 RBIs but he only appeared in 30 games for the Philadelphia Phillies this season after experiencing a back injury.
The move to Baltimore should increase...
Slugger Jim Thome has been traded to the Baltimore Orioles by the Philadelphia Phillies for two minor leaguers.
The Phillies will receive right-hander Kyle Simon and catcher Gabriel Lino. The trade was announced Saturday.
The 41-year-old Thome is a five-time All-Star. His 609 homers are tied with Sammy Sosa for seventh place on the career list.
His 1,689 RBI, over a 22-year career...
MIAMI -- Jim Thome is one of the best home run hitters in the history of the game. He's also one of the nicest. Thome, a 41-year old five-time All-Star with 609 home runs, was traded to the Baltimore Orioles by the Philadelphia Phillies for two minor leaguers. "There's a part of me that's happy to go and get a chance to play a little bit," Thome said....
According to Ken Rosenthal, the Phillies have traded Jim Thome for the second time, shipping him off to the Orioles this time. The deal will be officially announced following the game today but don't expect the Phillies to get much in return as this deal was about getting Thome to an AL team where he could get consistent at-bats.With Ryan Howard missing at least half of the...
With the Orioles struggling at the plate and in need of a jolt, they traded for Jim Thome from the Philadelphia Phillies. In turn, the Orioles sent two prospects to Philadelphia.
The Orioles today announced that they have acquired DH JIM THOME from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for minor league RHP KYLE SIMON and CA GABRIEL LINO.
Thome, 41, is a five-time All-Star and...
The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to trade slugger Jim Thome to the Baltimore Orioles, Fox Sports reported Saturday. Specifics of the deal are not expected to be known until after the Phillies game at the Miami Marlins. CSN Philadelphia first reported that the two sides were talking about making a deal. Thome has mainly been used as a pinch-hitter for the Phillies, but...
Now an Oriole
The Orioles are making moves. As reported by Ken Rosenthal, the Baltimore Orioles have acquired Jim Thome from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for two minor league prospects. The Orioles were not expected to make any noise this year but have surprised everyone, as they sit in second place in the American League East with a 42-35 record. On the other hand, the...
Jim Thome is now a Baltimore Oriole, and “Jim Thome trades” are between “Phillie Phanatic got injured” and “Kate Upton uploaded naked pictures of herself” on the list of important stories for me to cover. It’s just what I do.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, we’ve set up our first ever cross-site Dugout promotion. For part one of this Dugout, you’ll want...
Jim Thome is heading back to the American League where he belongs. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports just reported that the Phillies had traded the DH (who couldn't DH with the Phillies aside from interleague play) to the Orioles. The deal will be officially announced after both teams finish their games this afternoon, and there's no word on who the Orioles have given up in...
The Baltimore Orioles have acquired DH Jim Thome, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports. The deal was first reported by Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com.
Something tells me the Tribe’s bats will sad to leave the friendly confines of Camden Yards. Shelley Duncan hit his second home run in as many days, Aaron Cunningham hit his first homer of the season, and Justin Masterson scattered five hits over seven innings to get the win 6-2. All-Star Chris Perez pitched a scoreless 9th (not a save situation!) for the Indians, who improved...
