One of the intriguing match-ups within the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals five game series is the match-up between the managers.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny is managing in his first season and his first post-season. Meanwhile, Nationals manager Davey Johnson has been around the block for a long time.
Johnson clearly has the edge in experience and may have used some of that experience to his advantage in the eighth inning of the Nationals game one victory over the Cardinals.
Before I explain, lets be clear. The Cardinals lost this game because they left ten runners on base and were 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position. They lost because they were unable to score in the bottom of the seventh inning with the bases loaded and no outs. The Cardinals deserved to lose this game for these two reasons.
But it also should be noted that Matheny was schooled by the elder Davey Johnson in the top of the eighth inning.
