AVON - Last season, Crushers right-hander Dale Dickerson was pitching in the Cleveland Indians farm system with the single-A affiliate Carolina Mudcats. This year, he’s even closer to Cleveland; he’s just not with the Indians anymore. Avon, OH is just a 30 minute drive down I-90 west from downtown Cleveland, but the Frontier League is just about as far away as Dickerson could be from Major League Baseball while still playing the game professionally. Dickerson was selected by the Indians in the 16th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Nicholls State, and he pitched in their farm system for four years before finding himself with the Crushers this season. He enjoyed the best year of his professional career in 2011, when he finished 3-3 with a 2.51 ERA in 55 games, climbing as high as double-A Akron on the organizational ladder. He pitched in 30 games for Carolina last season, finishing with a 5-2 record and 4.38 ERA, before being released at the end of the season. He did n...

Two separate MLB scouts have reportedly told Yahoo! Sports baseball columnist Jeff Passan that Cleveland’s Francisco Lindor may end up being the most highly-touted prospect in baseball by the end of 2013. http://twitter.com/jeffpassan/status/33965564487811072 Lindor is reminiscent of Jurickson Profar: excellent plate discipline, fantastic glove, will hit for average and if power...

Tribe splits with Yanks in front of larger-than-expected crowd

I attended last Thursday afternoon’s 9-2 Indians win over Oakland at Progressive Field. It was an absolutely perfect day; mid-70′s and sunny. We are talking shorts and t-shirt weather. Fast forward four days and I was breaking out the winter coat and gloves that I had put away about three weeks ago as the Indians and the New York Yankees played a traditional doubleheader. There...

If you love the Indians AND the Twins, this is the perfect hat for you (Photo)

Of course, this applies to virtually nobody, which means whoever came up with a price of $14.97 for this clearly defective Indians/Twins mashup baseball cap is out of their minds. (We can not confirm or deny the comments by the Reddit poster that this hat was found at Wal-Mart). Photo via Reddit. H/T Extra Mustard. The Corner of Carnegie and Ontario finds an ace

We all got a taste of first place here at the Corner of Carnegie and Ontario, as your Indians found themselves all by their lonesome in first on Monday afternoon after Justin Masterson did his best Cy Young impression in beating the New York Yankees. I’m not going to lie. It tasted pretty good. Sure, the Indians were in first place at this point last year, and the year...

Can Reynolds, Indians stay hot?

There were certain facets of life I felt were resolute. The serenity of day games at Wrigley. The guitar riffs of Dan Auerbach. Ray Allen's jump shot. Ron Swanson's mustache. Given the mercurial nature of our culture, it's comforting and reassuring to have these pillars of constancy. So when one of these columns disintegrates, my world is sent spiraling into disarray...

House picked up a quality start and his first win of the season (1-2) after struggling over his past...

Closing Games Haunts Mudcats in Losing Streak

ZEBULON, N.C.-  On a beautiful night at Five County Stadium, Carolina Mudcats pitcher Jacob Lee challenged the Red Sox batters through the sixth inning, though Salem caught up with him in the seventh inning.  After a great start, both offensively and defensively, the momentum slowed and the Mudcats inability to consistently close games haunted them yet again as Salem took the...
