Found June 09, 2013 on Raise the Jolly Roger!:
The Bucs couldn’t get the sweep on Sunday, as their bats cooled off quickly and the pitching had a strange afternoon (in a mostly bad way). Jeff Locke started off the game strong, but quickly ran in to some serious control problems. He walked some batters in the early innings, but worked around them with several strikeouts and a few quick innings (plus a pickoff to end the third). All of a sudden, he was halfway through the game and hadn’t allowed a hit. It got messy in the sixth, though, and the Cubs actually managed to push a run across without getting a hit. Locke, still with his no hitter intact, was clearly running out of gas (approaching 100 pitches) and was still having trouble finding the zone – he walked his career high SEVENth batter to set up the run. The Cubs finally notched a base hit, and Jeff left the game before completing six inning. Unfortunately, the game was tied at that point because the Pirate offense did little against struggling Edwin Jackson. Andrew McCutche...

The Pittsburgh Pirates officially announced what many had speculated for days that blue chip prospect Gerrit Cole will be promoted to the majors. Cole will make his major league debut Tuesday against the reigning world champion San Francisco Giants. No pressure kid, oh and by the way you facing off against former CY Young winner Tim Lincecum. The 22-year old right handed hurler is...

Game 53: Cubs 4 Pirates 1

Well, that was strange. Jeff Locke seemed to get off to a really good start, but completely unraveled as the afternoon went on and he stopped being able to find the strike zone. He gave up a run before he gave up a hit and walked seven hitters. Justin Wilson bailed him out of trouble in the sixth, but served up a three-run home run to Cody Ransom in the seventh (just the second he...

Pirates 6, Cubs 2

The Pirates finally scored some runs for A.J. Burnett on Saturday, but he didn’t need many in one of his best performances of the season. A.J. only struck out five and benefited from a few sharply hit outs, but he was remarkably efficient and gave the Pirates exactly what they’ve been looking for – an outing deep in to the game. Before today, no Pirate starter had even started...

Daily Facepalm 6.10.13 – Welcome to the Cubs, Edwin Jackson

Edwin Jackson finally arrives The 'real' Edwin Jackson showed up for the first time this season, striking out eight while allowing one run, one walk, and four hits in seven innings. More importantly, his fastball averaged 94.78 on the day, much closer to his career avg of 95 mph than the paltry low 93.x mph he had been throwing earlier this year. The velocity bump showed...

In this minor league report, a run-down of the Cubs Top 13 prospects from the recent post-draft WSD rankings will be conducted instead of the normal...

JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 6-8-13

Round Rock Express 5 @ Iowa Cubs 8 (Game 1 of doubleheader)  Ian Stewart is apparently sick of riding the pine. You've undoubtedly by now heard about his 3-homer, 8 RBI game in the first half of today's doubleheader. Nobody else drove in a run, so he literally was the I-Cubs offense in this game. It'd be nice if this were the start of a return to form for Stewart. I...

Finishing move

Let's not mince words: the Cubs are terrible and the Pirates could really use a sweep after their terrible week against the Reds and Braves. Clint Hurdle is not pulling his punches with a Sunday lineup today; all of his regulars are on the field, including Russell Martin. After spending some time worrying about Jeff Locke's impending regression, his last three starts...

Series Preview: Cincinnati Reds (37-26) at Chicago Cubs (25-35)

The NL Central's been pretty good this year. That is, the upper 60% of the division. The Cubs have been demolished by division opponents, going 7-18 against their divisional foes. The fun week that was the two teams, one cup series already feels like it was a month ago after three offensively futile games against the Pirates,  Team Overviews   Reds Cubs wRC+ 98 (6th) 92...

Painting the Black: Swinging With Starlin by R.J. Anderson

Starlin Castro doesn`t seem to fit the Cubs` new patient philosophy. But is that too simple an explanation?

TV Ratings: Cubs, White Sox, Struggling in Chicago (Also: K.C. Royals, PGA on CBS)

The Cubs and White Sox combined cannot compete with the Blackhawks — or even the Derrick Rose-less Bulls. In other news, the Royals earned another strong rating in Kansas City, and the PGA Tour St. [...]
