Today’s game is a rematch of Game 2. The Cubs won that game behind a strong outing from Orval Overall. Overall tossed a complete game and allowed just 4 hits and a run. Bill Donovan pitched for the Detroit Tigers and also threw a complete game. Donovan pitched 8 innings, allowed 7 hits and 6 runs (all of them earned). Donovan was 18-7 on the season with a sparkling 2.08 ERA. Overall was 15-11 with a 1.92 ERA. Joe Tinker hit a 2-run home run off of Donovan in the 8th inning. No Cubs player had more than 1 hit. Each team is running out the same exact lineup from Game 2 with one exception. The Tigers number 8 hitter is changed. Overall is going to have to look out for the Tigers young right fielder. In just his 2nd full season in the big leagues, Ty Cobb has established himself among the game’s best players. He was a bit better last year, but still exceptionally good this year. He did lead the American League in hits, batting average, slugging percentage, doubles, triples and RBI.
