The 2013 version of the Cubs Bunting Tournament is rapidly approaching and the Cubs beat writers seem pretty psyched about it. Carrie Muskat, Paul Sullivan, and Jesse Rogers are all Twitpic-ing the **** out of the brackets they've seen so far this morning.
The first bracket is actually a play-in tourney for the 64th spot in the main tournament between some baseball ops, media relations and other front-office types:
The highlight of this side bracket is the bottom match-up:

OMG! OMG! OMG!
Jed vs. Theo! Theo vs. Jed! How is this not on pay-per-view?!
We also got a partial picture of the pitchers' side of the bracket from Jesse Rogers:
I'm not sure when all the bunting madness begins, but rest assured, our crack OV team will keep you up to date as developments occur.

There are 6 Cubs players who are out of options meaning they cannot be optioned to the minor leagues. They would have to be placed on waivers instead. Those players are: Michael Bowden, Welington Castillo, Rafael Dolis, Jeff Samardzija, Luis Valbuena and Travis Wood.
There are no concerns that Jeff Samardzija would need to be optioned to the minors, but that's not necessarily...
Dale Sveum said yesterday that Scott Feldman will be the 4th starter for the Cubs. He also confirmed what we already knew in that Scott Baker won't be ready to start the season.
Cubs manager Dale Sveum said Scott Baker, coming back from Tommy John surgery last year, most likely will not be ready by Opening Day, and that Scott Feldman will start and won't need to multi-task...
Brett Jackson discusses his new swing in this video from ESPN.
Last season was his worst season as a professional and hpefully the change in swing will put him on the right track. If the Cubs could get an above average CF in Brett Jackson for dirt cheap it would go a long way toward their rebuilding process.

The 2013 Cubs playoff odds are now available on Baseball Prospectus.
These odds are based on preliminary depth charts, with teams still having many roster moves to make before the season starts. Thus, they aren’t etched in stone, they’re etched in sand. And these are PECOTA’s estimates of what would happen if the season were played thousands of times. PECOTA is not infallible...
Heading into the offseason the Cubs were attractive target for pitchers looking to establish, or reestablish, themselves as a starter. The Cubs finished season with Matt Garza and Jeff Samardzija as the only locks on a rotation spot. An added bonus for those guys is that the Cubs would have more patience with them since the Cubs are unlikely to be in a playoff hunt. The Cubs...
With Tony Campana being designated for assignment, he was removed from this year’s Buntfest, and a spot opened up. What did the Chicago Cubs decide to do with their open spot? They had a play-in tournament with all the front office and PR personal. The play-in round was today and has just concluded.
The winner of the 64th seed in this year’s Buntfest belongs to Nate “The Video...
When Dale Sveum took the reigns of the Chicago Cubs prior to last season, he unveiled a fun little bunting contest to loosen up Spring Training. And since Sveum is back for season two...so is the bunting contest! On Saturday, for some reason, the front office staff took part in the contest in an effort to round out the field of 64 contestants. 64 you ask? Yes, according to ESPN...
ESPN Chicago radio's weekly Saturday Baseball gabfest, "Talking Baseball" found Jed Hoyer hitting the airwaves one more time. Questions covered Scott Baker's status, Scott Feldman'rotation status, Wrigley renovations, Hot Prospects (Soler and Baez), the Cubs interest in Michael Bourn, trading a reliever (Carlos Marmol) and life with Theo. Finally, Jed's...
Everybody was in the best shape of their lives and having fun watching Jed and Theo try their hand at bunting. Good times were had by all. That was yesterday.
Today, Matt Garza stepped up on the mound to face live hitters for the first time since July. It did not go well. He ended up leaving early after getting a visit from a trainer. On the plus side, everyone agreed he looked...
Last season Joe Mather was signed to a minor league contract and then made the team. Joe Mather was not any good. Not before he signed with the Cubs and especially not with the Cubs. Despite this, he still had nearly 250 plate appearances.
Joe Mather was the worst player in baseball last year. Baseball Reference only thought he was the 5th worst player in baseball.
In four seasons...
News coming out of Mesa, Arizona is not good for the Chicago Cubs, their fans, or the current plans or a rebuild. The idea of possibly trading Matt Garza during the season may be taking a big hit.
According to several twitter reports coming out of Cubs camp, Garza had to cut his first live batting practice session short. After calling out Head Athletic Trainer Chris Bosio, Garza...
Sam Gillikin turned down an $800000 offer from the Chicago Cubs to play college baseball for Auburn. Yesterday, he robbed Maine to pay Auburn.
Damek Tomscha hit a home run in the 9th, sending...

I just joined Twitter because they made me. You can follow me there @CubicSnarkonia. Yay?
Anyways, Anno collected some of the most relevant tweets. I’m too lazy to try to embed them all so will just put them in quotes and you can all deal.
Here’s one about the recently-departed (to Arizona, not Heaven) Bob Brenly:

…you guys get a rare bullets post from us. Because seriously, I can’t wait for spring training to get underway so we can begin a countdown to Opening Day. There are a bunch of Cactus League games to play, of course, and some of them are on TV and radio too. Position players report to camp on Saturday.
I began the day at the gym, shooting free throws under an assumed name...
