Cubs have traded RHP Andrew Cashner and OF Kyung-Min Na to the San Diego Padres for 1B Anthony Rizzo and RHP Zach Cates. That should deflect from the Castro sexual allegations rumors just fine...the PR department will be thrilled. As for the baseball move, generally a good idea to trade a young pitcher for a young position player and even better if you think that young pitcher won't stick in the rotation. So I like the deal. If Cashner become a top of the rotation arm though and Rizzo Hee-Seop Choi's it, I won't like it so much. Have it in the comments on the other 2 guys that I know nothing about.

Cubs trade P Cashner to Padres for minor leaguers

The Chicago Cubs traded righthander Andrew Cashner to the San Diego Padres for a pair of minor leaguers Friday. Cashner had nearly his entire 2011 season wiped out by injury. He suffered a shoulder strain after his first start and was sidelined for five minutes. The 25-year-old Cashner made six relief appearances in September and finished the season with a 1.69 ERA in 10 2/3 innings...

Padres acquire Andrew Cashner for Anthony Rizzo

If we learned anything from Jed Hoyer’s stay in San Diego, trading with him probably isn’t the best idea. With the likes of Theo Epstein and Jason McLeod as reinforcements, it doesn’t help matters. On Friday, Josh Byrnes and the San Diego Padres traded first basemen Anthony Rizzo and right hander Zach Cates to Hoyer and the Cubs for right-handed reliever Andrew Cashner and...

Cubs Acquire First Baseman Anthony Rizzo From Padres

The Cubs have long been rumored this winter to have interest in Padres top prospect Anthony Rizzo, but there was some uncertainty over whether or not there was a match there. One scenario that did pop up previously was a deal involving Matt Garza, in which San Diego would flip Garza to a team like the Texas Rangers. As it turns out, the Cubs didn’t need to make things so complicated...

The Cubs send pitching prospect Andrew Cashner to the Padres for Anthony Rizzo: The Cubs also acquired pitching prospect Zach Cates, 22, a right-hander Cubs executives Hoyer and Jason McLeod drafted in 2010 while with the Padres – paying him over-slot bonus money to sign him after signability concerns dropped the coveted pitcher to the third round. Cates went 4-10 with a 4.73...

If you haven't heard by now, Josh Byrnes has made another trade. While I have liked most of the trades he has pulled off so far (read that as all the trades), I am not too sure about this one. Rizzo and Cates to the Cubs for Cashner and Na. I guess it has the possibility of working out for both sides, but we'll have to wait and see. I just know though that Anthony is...
