The Chicago Cubs have acquired catcher Anthony Recker from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for catcher and first baseman Blake Lalli.
Recker was a member of Oakland's opening day roster but was sent to Triple-A Sacramento after hitting .129 in 31 at-bats over 13 games. Recker has hit .146 in 18 big league games overall, while he's put up a .273 average with 98 homers in eight seasons in the minors.
The Cubs assigned Recker to Triple-A Iowa.
Lalli made his major league debut for Chicago earlier this season, his seventh in professional baseball. He went 2 for 15 in six games for the Cubs before being sent down to Iowa.
The Cubs also designated left-hander Scott Maine for assignment.

The Chicago Cubs and shortstop Starlin Castro have agreed to a seven-year contract with a club option for 2020.
The 22-year-old Castro is a two-time All-Star and in just his second full major league season. He led the National League in hits with 207 last season. Since making his major league debut on May 7, 2010, Castro has more hits than any player in the NL with 486.
The Chicago Cubs activated right-handed pitcher Blake Parker from the 60-day disabled list on Tuesday, and they designated left-handed pitcher Alex Hinshaw for assignment. Parker, 27, has been out since June 6 with a right elbow stress reaction. He began his season with Triple-A Iowa and has yet to yield a run in 4 1/3 innings of relief work with the Cubs. Parker made...

The Greg of Rohan was 2-4 with a HR. Jaye Chapman lowered his ERA to 8.64 by working a clean inning.
Jae Hoon Ha hit his 7th HR of the year and is batting .405/.476/.649 in his last 10. He added an OF assist for fun. Ha has a .995 OPS in August and I can't remember him having a better month than this in his career.
Need we even say anything? Another PPD...
The plan yesterday was to juggle the two Cub games; the one in Des Moines I’d be attending and the one in Chicago I’d be monitoring via radio. I packed a couple of sandwiches and a couple of cokes and took the sports page along too for some in-depth box score scrutiny. Wow; how ‘bout that AL wild card chase?
Before I entered the ballpark I wandered over to the main entrance...

Coco Crisp, a key component of the Oakland Athletics' playoff-contending lineup, missed Tuesday night's game at Cleveland due to a bruised right foot. Manager Bob Melvin said that X-rays were negative and that Crisp is day-to-day. Crisp fouled the first pitch of his third-inning at-bat off his foot Monday night. Crisp is batting .304 in 54 starts since moving into the...
Josh Collmenter threw four innings of shutout ball with six strikeouts and Willie Bloomquist punched an RBI single and later scored to cap a three-run 4th, as the AZL Diamondbacks built up an early 5-0 lead and then hung-on to defeat the AZL Cubs 6-4 in Arizona League action tonight at HoHoKam Park in Mesa.

Chicago Cubs starter Justin Germano believes he pitched better than the box score would indicate after he gave up seven runs to the Milwaukee Brewers in his last outing.
He will get another chance to prove he can fare well against the Brewers when these NL Central rivals open a four-game set Monday night at Wrigley Field.
Milwaukee (59-67) swept three games at home from Chicago...
