The Chicago Cubs officially introduced Jed Hoyer as their new general manager on Tuesday.

Hoyer resigned as the San Diego Padres general manager on Oct. 26 in order to accept the same position with the Cubs. Joining the 37-year-old Hoyer was Jason McLeod, who left San Diego to join Chicago as the team's vice president of scouting and player development.

"From my first conversation with (Cubs chairman) Tom (Ricketts), it was clear the passion and the dedication to the fan base, how much they want to bring a championship to this city," Hoyer said. "I know the commitment to getting Theo (Epstein), to getting Jason and to getting me wasn't the easiest process of all time. I'm well area of that. I appreciate that hard work."

The Cubs will send a player to be named later to San Diego in exchange for Hoyer and McLeod.

Hoyer is officially reunited with Epstein, who left the Boston Red Sox to take over as director of baseball operations for the Cubs.

As for the future of current manager Mike Quade, Epstein noted that "a resolution will come by next week."

Quade has posted a 95-104 record since taking over for the retired Lou Piniella on Aug. 22, 2010.
