The Chicago Cubs completed a deal Tuesday that sends catcher Geovany Soto to the Texas Rangers for minor league right-hander Jake Brigham and a player to be named or cash consideration. The deal was reported on Monday night as Soto was pulled from the Cubs' game against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the sixth inning, but was not finalized until Tuesday morning, according to MLB.com. Soto hit .199 in 52 games for the Cubs and was on the disabled list earlier in the season because of a left knee injury. Soto, the 2008 National League Rookie of the Year, is owed $4.3 million this year, and is arbitration eligible next season. Soto will back up Mike Napoli behind the plate and the Rangers are expected to trade catcher Yorvit Torrealba after designating him for assignment to make room for Soto. Brigham, 24, was 5-5 with a 4.28 ERA in 21 starts for Class AA Frisco. The Cubs are expected to recall catcher Welington Castillo from Class AAA Iowa to back up with Steve Clevenger.
