Big nights with the bat for Anthony Rizzo and Nate Samson, but not a win in the organization. @Marlins 5 - Cubs 3; A few brights spots in the game; the bullpen threw 4.1 innings of scoreless ball and they drew 3 walks off Nolasco. But Barney's bases clearing defense-assisted triple was the only big hit of the game and Samardzija was the Samardzija we all know and love. The one that can't throw strikes consistently walking 5 himself in 3.2 IP, while also giving up 8 hits. @Albuquerque 4 (Dodgers) - Iowa 3; Travis Wood with the start and he gets 5 K's and just one walk in 6.1 IP, but also 9 H and 4 ER and gets hung with the loss. Offensively, it was Anthony Rizzo's world and we're just living in it. Two blasts, numbers 6 and 7 on the year, but it wasn't quite enough offense for Iowa. Dave Sappelt sums it up:  @SappySappelt6 Anthony Rizzo is a Monster this league is child's play for him @Huntsville 9 (Brewers) - Tennessee 7; Not to be outdone b...

The Chicago Cubs are not good at baseball

After staring at a blank computer screen for quite some time trying to find the words to describe this season thus far, I realized that a blank piece of paper sums up the Chicago Cubs’ first 13 games better than anything else. Seriously though, the team is bad. I have just one question. Did any of you think something else was going to happen? We all knew this team was the opposite...

Series notes: Chicago Cubs

This weekend features a series at Wrigley Field between two clubs that aren't exactly "setting the world on fire" right now. The host Cubs (3-10) enter Friday's affair riding a 5-game losing skid and a last place standing in the division. Meanwhile, Dusty Baker leads the Reds (5-8) into the Windy City hoping that a trio of games against the hapless Cubs will get...

Game 13 Thread - Samardzija vs. Nolasco

Sorry, no time for a recap last night as I got caught up in that Cliff Lee vs. Matt Cain epic showdown. Anyway, Cubs lost in every way possible although they manage zero caught stealings or errors. Iowa lost 6-4, Valbeuna hit a home run and a double. Jackson and W. Castillo hit doubles as well. Jay Jackson gave up 5 in 5.2 IP. Tennessee split a doubleheader, each of the 7-inning...

Your Morning Dump... Where Tito finally got his send-off

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Terry Francona’s unceremonious departure from the Red Sox [team stats] after last season couldn’t have been uglier. But the erstwhile manager received a hero’s welcome yesterday upon his return to Fenway...
