9th inning dramatics at Wrigley and the Cubs have won 2 of 3. You probably don't want to go any farther back than that. @Cubs 3 - Cardinals 2; That certainly was an unexpected win, but let's first take a look at the expected. Garza gives up just 2 ER over 7 innings against a slightly depleted Cardinals lineup (no Berkman or John Jay). Garcia of course answers against a depleted Cubs lineup (no injuries, they just mostly suck). Now to the surprises, Garza made a decent play on defense, laid down a sacrifice bunt and the team did not commit any errors. There were some adventures on the basepath, Castro getting picked off by Garcia and then 8th inning weirdness with Campana that worked out for the Cubs. Campana singled with 1 out and representing the tying run in the 8th. I missed the DeJesus at-bat unfortunately, so I don't know if he attempted to run off the lefty Garcia. But Matheny brought in the righty Boggs to face Barney and the Cardinals knew Campana would be runni...

The Children Are The Future-Cubs Minor League Update Sponsored by RC Cola

Iowa Brett Jackson had a pair of hits and stole his 3rd base of the year and Anthony Rizzo continues to mash AAA pitching to the tune of .380 as the Iowa Cubs  lost 2-6. It might be time for Jay Jackson to say goodbye as he is just terrible. Yesterday also marked the debut [...]

Bowden joins Cubs' bullpen

The Cubs' bullpen continued evolving Monday with the activation of right-hander Michael Bowden. The 25-year-old Bowden came to the Cubs Saturday in the trade that sent center fielder Marlon Byrd to the Boston Red Sox. To make room, the Cubs designated veteran right-hander Rodrigo Lopez for assignment. Bowden figures to see a lot of action in the middle innings. "...

CHICAGO (AP) -- Joe Mather's two-run single with two outs in the ninth inning lifted the Chicago Cubs to a 3-2 comeback win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night. LaHair Wins Motte’s 12-Pitch Battle

With a two-out, two-run walk-off single off St. Louis closer Jason Motte, the Cubs’ Joe Mather became Monday night’s unlikeliest hero. But all you had to do was ask him — before the traditional shaving cream pie to the face, of course — and he’d tell you (as he told WGN after the game) the man truly responsible for the Cubs’ ninth-inning rally was Bryan LaHair. The 29...
