As executives head for the winter meetings in Nashville, the Chicago Cubs have five pitchers in the rotation. That doesn't mean they are going to stop there. Before the meetings, the Cubs signed former Rangers right-hander Scott Feldman to a one-year deal worth $6 million with another $1 million possible in incentives. That gave the Cubs a rotation of right-handers Matt Garza, Jeff Samardzija, Scott Baker and Feldman, and left-hander Travis Wood. Two rookie left-handers, Brooks Raley and Chris Rusin, got starts at the end of the 2012 season. They're part of the inventory the Cubs will take to spring training, but they're both likely to open the 2013 season at Class AAA Iowa. There are certainly question marks with the current rotation, and that is why team president Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer have said they will seek to add even more pitching if they can. Garza is coming off an elbow injury that ended his season in July. Baker, recently signed as a free agent, missed this past season with the Twins because of Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. Feldman bounced back and forth between the bullpen and the rotation for Texas this year, finishing 6-11 with a 5.09 ERA. "We really felt like we had to add at least two starting pitchers going into the winter, and we've done that already," Hoyer said. "We're still going to look for talent. If that talent is in the rotation, then we wouldn't consider ourselves done, and we'd certainly add someone else. "We're excited about the two guys (Baker and Feldman) we've added so far and believe they'll provide quality innings for us. As far as where the rotation stands now, we're still looking to get better and add talent."
