MLBTR quotes the piece of **** Paul Sullivan who says the Cubs plan to shop Carlos Zambrano this winter. Ken Rosenthal reported this first so it does appear to be legitimate. I have no idea why the Cubs would do this. Zambrano is owed a lot of money and given the ****** economy, it’s not like they’re going to get a lot in return. I was asking myself the other day why the Cubs would so something so stupid. The answer came to me rather quickly. This is the Chicago Cubs we’re talking about. They’ve been doing stupid **** since before I was born so I don’t even know why it shocks me even a little bit when they continue to do it. The Cubs are in talks with John Grabow for an extension. He’d be the main set-up man to newly announced disaster of a plan. The good news is that it will probably only cost the Cubs $4 million for a guy who is nearly as wild as the newly announced disaster of a plan. Grabow’s BB/9 rate this year is only 5.32 while Marmol’s is a lovely 8.13. There are going to be lots of walks in the 8th and 9th inning of Cubs games next season. So far, the Cubs offseason plan appears to be the following: Not offering Rich Harden arbitration in fear of him accepting a contract he’d never accept Trading Milton Bradley because the fans don’t like him Paying at least half of Milton Bradley’s contract because the Cubs are ******* stupid Trading Carlos Zambrano because the fans don’t like him Expecting to get anything of value in return for Carlos Zambrano Probably paying $20 million or more of Zambrano’s remaining contract just so they can get a top prospect with 5 tools and little chance of ever being as good as Corey Patterson Re-signing a LOOGY with terrible control to be a set-up man Promoting a guy who walked a batter per inning to the closer’s role Re-signing a guy whose xFIP is over 5 to a deal probably of 2 years and $8 million Naming a guy who will make around $1 million in arbitration as the closer while his xFIP is even higher than the LOOGY with terrible control who will get about $8 million and be the set-up man Re-signing a reliever to throw about 60 innings per season for around $8 million while not offering arbitration to one of the best pitchers in all of baseball because you can’t afford $10 million After trading away salary and not re-signing Harden, the Cubs will probably overpay for Chone Figgins because leading off is as important as putting tape on a catcher’s fingers Paying Koyie Hill about $1 million in arbitration to be the back-up catcher A 1-2-3 rotation of Lilly, Dempster and Wells because they’re all white and will get tons of fans that way A 4-5 rotation of Samardzija and Marshall because Samardzija and Marshall weren’t good enough to be relievers Keeping Soriano around so the Cubs fans have someone they can direct their hate toward when the 2010 season sucks ass Creating a more intense rivalry with the Pirates as the two teams battle it out for 5th place 2010 is going to be a ******* blast. The fans will finally get what they want. I’ll watch Bradley and Zambrano excel with their new teams and then I’ll laugh my ass off at the same dumbass fans who ran them out of town.
