Cueto continued his career mastery over the Bucs After dropping 10 of 15 to the Pirates (11-15) last season, Cincinnati (13-12) strolled into PNC Park with one thing on their mind on Friday, revenge. The Reds were undoubtedly chomping at the bit for some redemption and redemption is what they received after pummeling the host Buccos 6-1. Johnny Cueto was Cueto-esque in this one, going the complete distance to improve his record to a perfect 4-0 on the season. Pittsburgh starter Kevin Correia took the loss to drop his overall mark to 1-2. The Reds got the scoring underway in the top of the second when Chris Heisey's bunt single brought home Jay Bruce -- making it 1-0. Ryan Hanigan helped pad the lead to 2-0 when his double to left plated Heisey in the fourth. The Buccos managed to scratch a run across in the bottom half of the inning, courtesy of Pedro Alvarez's sac fly which scored Nate McLouth. However, Cincy was able to get that run right back...

Cueto wants to make complete games a habit

Johnny Cueto is developing into an ace. That's no accident. "This guy works hard," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "He probably runs more than anyone on our team. He's learned how to work, how to get his endurance up. And he controls his emotions. Early in his career, he always had that one bad inning when his emotions would get out of whack. Now, he's...

Game 25: Reds 6, Pirates 1

That was a great game last night, wasn’t it? Johnny Cueto was awesome. Again. And the offense actually showed up. It felt like it was the first time in forever that the offense wasn’t rained out. How nice that it gave the Cincinnati Reds their first time above .500 since April 8. Cueto continues to show himself as the best home-grown Reds pitcher since Tom Browning. Granted...

$200 Fantasy Baseball With FanDuel Happens Tonight, Let’s Keep It Going

Come on, Johnny Cueto! You’re pitching against the Pirates! I expect two concurrent perfect games from you! Win this contest for me! I’ve decided to put away my history of horrible fantasy performances and destroy this week’s FanDuel contest, wherein you pay $2 to enter and stand to win cash from a $200 cash pool … and the best part is that you can enter three times,...

Reds-Pirates Preview

Cueto looks to match his longest unbeaten run as the Cincinnati Reds open a three-game road series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night. Evolution of an Ace

Johnny Cueto is now in his fifth major league season and he continues to improve year over year. As long as he continues that trend it's only a matter of time before he is considered one of the elite pitchers in major leagues. Still only 26 years old, the right-hander is showing a maturity as he develops that is starting to make a case that he deserves that status right now.

Cueto welcomes Bucs back home sucky home

We’ve stopped waiting for Kevin Correia to get used to pitching at PNC Park – at this point it just doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. He can beat Clayton Kershaw on the road but as soon as he comes out of the Fort Pitt Tunnel, he completely forgets how to win. Last night he kept the Pirates in it until the seventh inning when he gave up back-to-back jacks to the...

Johnny Cueto picked up the complete-game victory for the Reds and is now 4-0 with a 1.31 ERA on the season. Any questions about whether Cueto was “truly an ace” have quickly been answered. His numbers this season are eye-popping, and this is after going 12-7 with...
