Cueto gave up six runs on nine hits in 4 1-3 innings, and hasn't won since August 28 at Arizona. Ryan Ludwick homered for the Reds. The Marlins chased Cueto with a three-run fifth, capped by a two-run homer by Lee, who hit a 3-1 pitch over the center field scoreboard that gave Miami a 6-2 lead. The homer followed Reyes' double that scored Justin Ruggiano. The Reds made it 6-4 on Ludwick's two-run homer off Buehrle in the eighth. Buehrle was then replaced by Mike Dunn. Steve Cishek pitched a scoreless ninth for his 14th save in 18 opportunities. Trailing 3-...

MLB Rumors: Miami Marlins Setting Up Ozzie Guillen As Fall Guy?

The Miami Marlins have had a disappointing season in 2012, to say the least. They spent more money on three marquee free agents last offseason than they generally spend in a year on their entire roster. They brought in Ozzie Guillen to manage a team they felt should at least compete for a playoff spot this season. But with just a couple of weeks left in the regular season...

For the Miami Marlins to improve on the diamond, manager Ozzie Guillén must be booted from ‘The Gateway to the Americas’

Controversial Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillén has chapped the asses of the team’s suits and speculation is mounting that the obnoxious blowhard will be terminated shortly after the season concludes on October 3. The 48-year-old Guillén, who was suspended five … Continue reading →

Marlins go for a sweep of Cincy in series finale

While the Cincinnati Reds are still comfortably cruising toward the NL Central title and the Miami Marlins occupy the East cellar, the teams have undergone a bit of a role reversal this weekend. The Marlins will send streaking Ricky Nolasco to the hill Sunday as they bid for their first sweep of the visiting Reds in nearly a decade. Holding a double-digit lead with 16 games to...

Hanley Ramirez: Are the Marlins winning without me?

Hanley Ramirez may have been a problem in Miami, but he was not the problem. If he was truly a malcontent in the clubhouse and was hurting the team off the field, the Marlins did the right thing in getting rid of him. On Thursday, Marlins team president David Samson told MLB.com the following when asked why Ramirez was traded to the Dodgers. “We just realized we couldn’t win...

Marlins' LeBlanc takes on the Braves at home

By sweeping a series from the NL East leaders, the Atlanta Braves have managed to stay in the conversation for the division crown. A far more realistic way to make the playoffs is securing the NL's first wild card, and a series with the last-place Miami Marlins should help with that endeavor, especially with Tim Hudson set to pitch. Hudson looks to win his fifth straight start...

Marlins' Guillen is not concerned about his job security

The Miami Marlins are having a disappointing season, but manager Ozzie Guillen expects to return next year despite speculation that his job could be on the line. Guillen said the thought does not "go through my mind, 'Wow, I might get fired?' No. Sometimes you say, 'Wow, I wish I got fired because I can go home and relax and not deal with this anymore.' But...

Marlins' Guillen defends team in profane tweet

MIAMI (AP) -- Ozzie Guillen says his last-place Miami Marlins are still hustling, and he's still defending them. After a victory Friday over the Cincinnati Reds, the manager tweeted a profanity in reference to a reporter, saying he made "stupid comments about the miami team. ... we still play hard. ... i think u no watch." The season has been bitterly disappointing...

Reds shut down by Marlins rookie starter

MIAMI (AP) -- The Cincinnati Reds' push toward the playoffs was slowed Friday by a last-place team and a rookie who earned his first National League victory. Jacob Turner allowed only two hits in a career-high seven innings to help the Miami Marlins beat the NL Central leaders 4-0. Turner (1-2) outpitched Bronson Arroyo (12-8), who gave up four runs in six innings. The Reds...

3 Cs for the playoffs: Cozart, Chapman, Cueto

Last Game The Reds kept themselves from being swept by the Marlins yesterday. The Reds lost the lead twice before Ryan Ludwick knocked in Chris Heisey in the eleventh inning. It took the team 17 hits to get its 5 runs. Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with 2 walks. Dude is an on-base machine. Next Game Our guys take the day off today before visiting the Cubs tomorrow. In fact, there are only...

Game 146: Waiting for the Cardinals to lose again

Perhaps it’s the 4 pints of beer talking, but the Cincinnati Reds are playing like I feel when I watch them: I’ve already entered the play-off tickets sweepstakes, let’s get the season over with already. The Reds lost the series to the Florida Miami Marlins today when Johnny Cueto had another crappy start. When Cueto doesn’t win the Cy Young award, look back to this start...

Marlins' Guillen thinks minor-leaguers should earn call-up

Manager Ozzie Guillen is content with the Marlins using a four-man bench and having 16 pitchers. "The only thing we can't do, we cannot fight anybody," he said, joking. Guillen is happy the Marlins this month have only called up pitchers A.J. Ramos, Tom Koehler and Dan Jennings. Guillen said he is against promoting minor leaguers who don't deserve a September...

Sources: Marlins mull firing Ozzie

The Marlins have not yet decided whether to fire manager Ozzie Guillen. But they're thinking about it. The team is "testing the waters" with managerial candidates and has contacted at least one already, according to major-league sources. The dismissal of Guillen, who is in the first year of a four-year, $10 million contract, is more likely than a major shakeup in...

Marlins try to put another dent in Cincinnati

Although the Cincinnati Reds are running away with the NL Central, there are some growing concerns for Dusty Baker's club. Their offense is suddenly sputtering, and ace Johnny Cueto seems like he's hit a wall. Cueto tries to avoid losing three straight starts for the first time in three years, while the visiting Reds look to bounce back from one of their worst offensive...
