In surprising news, Boston Red Sox veteran right-handed starting-pitcher, Curt Schilling, is supposedly out for the year (or at least the majority of the season) with a partially torn rotator cuff. The initial reports are saying that he has opted for rehab as opposed to surgery, but at age forty, this injury could spell the end of Schilling illustrious career. What is mysterious about this injury is that the Red Sox opted to re-sign Schilling in the off-season, and surely any physical taken prior to a contract would have identified this injury immediately. This begs to the question, did Theo and Curt just shake hands on a deal since the two get along, or were the Red Sox doctors completely oblivious to the obvious? But what kind of effect does this have on the Red Sox for the 2008 season? Can their "depth" at pitching save their rotation?
