Tigers right-hander Max Scherzer just seems to be a real guy's guy. He runs the clubhouse's fantasy football league, he wears really cool custom goggles during champagne celebrations, and he can throw a mean slider. What's not to like about him? I guess the only that separates him from the rest of us is that he just so happens to be the best pitcher in the American League today and he makes millions of dollars. Max Scherzer is clearly a prime time player. Yesterday it was announced that Scherzer had received 28 of 30 first place votes to capture the 2013 Cy Young award on the AL side of things. This makes him the fourth pitcher in Detroit Tigers history to earn this prestigious award. Saying that Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw had an impressive year would be an understatement. The Texas born athlete posted an unheard of 1.83 era en route to the 2nd Cy Young worthy season of is career. He joins Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax as the only Dodger to win more than one Cy Young award. I'd say that's pretty decent company. And he appears to just be getting started at the ripe young age of 25. This isn't the only hardware that Scherzer and Kershaw will receive after their impressive 2013 campaigns though. .@WWE will send the real thing to @MLB Cy Young Awards winners @Max_Scherzer and @ClaytonKersh22 — Vince McMahon (@VinceMcMahon) November 14, 2013 Now Max and WWE Champion Randy Orton have much more in common then their St. Louis, Missouri ties. Thanks to Fight Booth for the find.

Max Scherzer wins 2013 AL Cy Young Award

There's something very special about watching a player put everything together in an unbelievable season like Detroit Tigers starter Max Scherzer did this year. Scherzer, 29, always possessed incredible talent, a strong work ethic and a keen intellect. In 2013, he combined all of that for a dominating 21-3 record, 2.90 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and for the sabermetric crowd, a 6.7 WAR...

Max Scherzer Wins AL CY Young

Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer was named the AL CY Young winner today. He won in a landslide, collecting 28 of the 30 first place votes. Scherzer went 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA, both career bests. Sure, we can have the debate about how much won-loss record measures a pitcher’s ability. It doesn’t mean anything. You could argue with me, but you’d be wrong. Nevertheless, Scherzer...

Why Clayton Kershaw is setting a new standard for Cy Young award

The list of Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers that have won the coveted Cy Young award is as impressive as any in baseball history, however, the latest addition in Clayton Kershaw may eventually outshine them all. Kershaw received his second Cy Young award on Wednesday cementing his name to the list of other Dodger greats with names like Fernando Valenzuela, Orel Hershiser, and even...

Scherzer understands baseball's a business, but still doesn't want Tigers to trade him

Max Scherzer understands why the Detroit Tigers may have to consider trading him. He just doesn't want it to happen. The newly minted American League Cy Young award winner will be in the final year of his contract in 2014 and is expected to receive a hefty raise in arbitration. If the Tigers don't think they can sign him to an extension, then what? "I get it. I get...

Clayton Kershaw Wins 2013 NL Cy Young Award

Clayton Kershaw wins 2013 Cy Young!

For a Cy Young that has been so obvious, the inevitable has happened... That's my pathetic Vin Scully impression. But! the inevitability of Clayton Kershaw taking home his second Cy Young in three years and second of his young career has become a reality! He is only 25, BTW. Kersh beat out ROY winner Jose Fernandez of the Marlins and Adam Wainwright of...
