D-backs call up RHP Ryne Nelson for major league debut

The Arizona Diamondbacks called up right-hander Ryne Nelson to make his major league debut Monday night against the San Diego Padres.

In a pair of corresponding moves, right-hander Luis Frias was optioned to Triple-A Reno, while infielder Yonny Hernandez also was recalled and placed on the 60-day injured list.

Nelson, 24, was Arizona's second-round draft pick in 2019 out of Oregon. In 26 starts at Reno this season, he was 10-5 with a 5.43 ERA and had 128 strikeouts in 136 innings.

Frias, 24, was 1-0 with a 12.34 ERA in 10 relief appearances with the Diamondbacks this season. In 12 games with Arizona this season, Hernandez, 24, had just two hits in 24 at-bats (.083).
