Found February 18, 2013 on Fox Sports Arizona:
The Diamondbacks on Monday acquired outfielder Tony Campana from the Cubs in exchange for minor league pitchers Jesus Castillo and Erick Leal. Campana, who was designated for assignment last week, hit .264 with 30 steals and five RBIs in 89 games with Chicago last season and hit .280 with 18 stolen bases in 37 games with Triple-A Iowa. The 26-year-old ranked ninth in the National League in steals, tied for second in stolen base percentage at 90.9 and tied for third in bunt hits with eight. Overall, the 5-foot-8 Campana has played in 184 major league games, all with the Cubs over the last two seasons, and has hit .262 with 54 steals, one homer and 11 RBIs in those games. He played all three outfield positions in Chicago, with the majority of his starts coming in left field. The D-backs have Jason Kubel, Adam Eaton and Cody Ross as projected starters in the outfield as well as Gerardo Parra and potentially A.J. Pollock -- who played in 31 games last year -- coming off the bench. It is unclear how Campana fits into the team's plans, with the most likely scenario being him and Pollock competing for one of the team's final position-player roster spots. Leal and Castillo, both 17, played with the D-backs' Dominican Summer League team last season after being signed as free agents. Leal went 6-2 with a 2.44 ERA in 14 games (12 starts), and Castillo was 2-4 with a 5.40 ERA in 14 games (eight starts).

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- After the Chicago Cubs designated outfielder Tony Campana for assignment on Feb. 10, he wasn't sure where he'd go next or how he'd stay sharp -- he ended up utilizing a local gym and a public batting cage. Diamondbacks Acquire Tony Campa’s Base Stealing

The Arizona Diamondbacks outfield roulette continued today, as they announced they’d shipped a pair of low level minor leaguers to Chicago in exchange for Tony Campana. Yes, the Diamondbacks just traded for another outfielder, despite the fact that their OF is already one of the most crowded in baseball. With Adam Eaton and Gerardo Parra in the fold, it doesn’t seem entirely...

Photos: Arizona Diamondbacks have Paintball Day as team-building exercise

Tweet   The Arizona Diamondbacks may very well be the top contender for Most Fun Spring Training: 2013. They wasted no time joining the Harlem Shake craze by giving us this video and with new members on the team like Brandon McCarthy, Eric Chavez, and Martin Prado next on the agenda was a little team-building [...]

Crazy Legs Campana Headed to the Desert

Last week, the Cubs outrighted Tony Campana off thier 40-man to make room for Scott Hairston. Today, the Diamondbacks agreed to give up two pitchers for the speedster...RHP Erick Leal and RHP Jesus Castillo. Judging by the quality going out, I wouldn't expect much on the quality coming in, but maybe the Cubs unearth one of those diamonds in the rough. Leal, a 6-3" righty...

Brandon McCarthy throws to hitters for first time

ap photo On Monday Brandon McCarthy faced hitters for the first time since fracturing his skull. “It honestly is completely normal,” said McCarthy, who threw behind a protective screen like most of his other teammates. “Anything you would have thought might have been there wasn’t. I was more nervous about where my command was at, where my stuff was at.” Diamondbacks manager...

D-backs have by-example leader in Ross

PHOENIX Call Cody Ross a dirtbag and he smiles. It is the way he plays, and is it showing up already with the Diamondbacks. Ross and Adam Eaton went through outfield drills on the second day of full-squad workouts last week, and Eaton could not help but notice the pace. Ross seemed to be working about game speed, and Eaton asked him about it. Gotta get better, Ross answered simply...

The Trade of Campana Overshadows a Much Bigger Issue

In the midst of the breaking news about the trade of Tony Campana, the Chicago Cubs slipped a little bit of news into their press conference. Matt Garza, who left his first spring training outing with what was called a “minor strained lat” in his left side, is going to undergo an MRI. Now, if I were to ask you what the bigger deal was to Cubs Nation, you would undoubtedly say...

The Relief of the Campana Trade

I am a reasonable man that believes in what is observable. I don’t believe in Leprechauns, unicorns, or vampires. I believe that there is life outside of the solar system, but the odds of that life being intelligent and reaching this planet is infinitesimally small. I don’t believe in Big Foot or the Loch Ness Monster, but I will tell that I believe with absolute certainty in...

Little bit of everything Cubs

I woke up this morning and for the first time all winter, I am suffering from a bad case of Offseason Blues.  Perhaps it’s because for the first time all winter, I had to pull out the shovel to clear away that horrid white stuff off my driveway.  Or perhaps it’s because the sub-zero windchill temperatures slapped at my face as I did so.  I just need a reminder that the crack...
