Fox Sports Arizona:
The Diamondbacks on Thursday officially added pitcher Trevor Bauer to the active roster, calling up the third overall pick in the 2011 draft from Triple-A Reno, and optioned third baseman Josh Bell to Reno in a corresponding move.
Bauer, who will be making his major league debut, had already been named as the starter for Thursday night's game against the Braves in Atlanta. At 21 years, 164 days, he will be the third-youngest pitcher to make his first major league start with the D-backs, behind only Edgar Gonzalez (20 years, 98 days on June 1, 2003) and Oscar Villarreal (21 years, 127 days on April 8, 2003).
Bauer most recently pitched for Reno on Sunday at Salt Lake City, throwing 2 23 innings and allowing a run on two hits and two walks to go along with five strikeouts. He was pulled from the game early in preparation for Thursday night's start, which he'll be making in place of the injured Joe Saunders. In 16 combined starts between Reno and Double-A Mobile, Bauer was 11-1 with a 2.23 ERA and .220 opponents average while striking out 116 and walking 48. In eight starts at Reno, he was 4-0 with a 2.82 ERA. 56 strikeouts and eight walks.
Bauer, who went 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA in four spring training appearances, will wear No. 17 with the D-backs.
The 25-year-old Bell hit .173 with a homer and four RBIs in 21 games after being recalled on May 21. Prior to joining the D-backs, he was hitting .381 with four home runs and 30 RBIs in 26 games with Reno. He was acquired from the Orioles on April 21 for a player to be named later.
With Stephen Drew back in the lineup after missing nearly a year with an ankle injury, the D-backs had a multitude of infielders, and the struggling Bell had earned just four at-bats in the past week.
BEST OF MAXIM
Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Trevor Bauer's first major league pitch will be one he never forgets -- for all the wrong reasons. There was nothing wrong with the pitch itself. In fact, it was a picture-perfect fastball that found the strike zone like any pitcher would dream about. What happened after the pitch though, was a different story. Wanting to save the memory of his first...
If Diamondbacks fans were looking for a dominant performance foretelling a future Cy Young Award from Trevor Bauer on Thursday (and the colossal buzz leading up to his major league debut would suggest they were), they probably came away disappointed.
Based on the astronomic expectations in place for the 21-year-old phenom's debut, it was a letdown -- four innings and a no decision...
Much-heralded, highly-touted right-handed pitcher Trevor Bauer made his major league debut on Thursday night when the Arizona Diamondbacks faced the Atlanta Braves. Overall, it was a decent performance, although not remarkable (4 IP, 5H, 3ER, 3BB, 3K). What was remarkable, however, was the two oddball scenes that played out leading up to and immediately after [...]
Unless you live in a cave, you’ve undoubtedly heard that the Arizona Diamondbacks have called up super prospect Trevor Bauer to make his debut in Atlanta on Thursday night. I have little doubt that Bauer will be an upgrade over Joe Saunders in the Arizona rotation, but the more important question is whether he’ll be better than the worst starter on your fantasy team. Answering...
So that’s what Trevor Bauer does when warming up before the inning starts, but that’s only the end of it. He starts with ninja training… …then moves on to using bands… …and ends with “The Karate Kid” impersonations
It’s probably true that basically any idiot can capture and render into GIF form video footage of a few pitches from Trevor Bauer‘s much-anticipated major-league debut on Thursday. Only one such idiot, however, both (a) writes for FanGraphs and (b) has 15 free minutes on Friday evening.
This guy, is who.
So, without anything further in the way of preface, here are three select...
Trevor Bauer, the No. 3 pick in last year's draft, will make his debut for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday against the Atlanta Braves.
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Tuesday the 21-year-old Bauer, a right-hander and former UCLA standout, will be called up from Triple-A Reno and join the team on Wednesday.
Bauer is 4-0 with a 2.82 ERA in eight starts at Reno. He...
Precocious right-hander Trevor Bauer bobbed and weaved through his major-league debut Thursday, getting in and mostly out of trouble in his four innings of work in the Arizona Diamondbacks' 3-2 victory over Atlanta, a game Chris Young won with a home run in the top of the ninth inning. Bauer, the third player taken in the 2011 draft, gave up two runs, five hits and three walks...
1). Trevor Bauer ARI SP 3 IP 4.50 ERA 3 SO
His first outing wasn’t the most promising, but you have to give the guy some slack with it being his first career start. All signs point to him being a stud from here on out with loads of strikeouts for your fantasy staff.
2). Brandon Belt SFG 1B/OF .259 AVG 17 R 4 HR 29 RBI 4 SB
Belt has been hot of late hitting four home runs in...
The Arizona Diamondbacks will call up top prospect Trevor Bauer, who is 11-1 in the minor leagues this season, to make Thursday's start against the Braves.
Trevor Bauer makes his Major League Debut tonight. Carson already wrote about it, and the coverage of his impending promotion has included months of conversation, including a movement to #FreeTrevorBauer. Bauer’s big league debut has been heavily anticipated and is now going to be heavily watched.
However, there’s another guy getting called up from the minors to join the...
The Arizona Diamondbacks called up starting pitcher Trevor Bauer from the minor leagues, but I don’t see him as a must-add in mixed league formats. Bauer lasted just four innings in his first start against the Atlanta Braves, allowing five hits and walking three while throwing 74 pitches. Bauer struggled with his control in the minor leagues with 48 walks in 93 innings and that...
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson confirmed Tuesday what was first reported Sunday by FOXSportsArizona.com's Jack Magruder: Trevor Bauer, the No. 3 pick in last year's draft, will make his debut for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday against the Atlanta Braves.
Gibson said the 21-year-old Bauer will be called up from Triple-A Reno and join the team on Wednesday.
