Right-hander Takashi Saitos season stalled again Tuesday when the Diamondbacks placed him on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring muscle. Saito has been active for 23 days this season. The D-backs purchased the contract of left-hander Mike Zagurski to replace Saito, a move that returned a left-hander to the bullpen.
Zagurskiwas designated for assignment on Saturday, when Bryan Shaw rejoined the team. After clearing waivers, Zagurski was outrighted to Class Triple-A Reno on Monday. He is 0-0 with a 6.18 ERA in 23 games with the D-backs this season.
Saito, 42, signed a one-year, 1.75 million free agent contract this winter to add another arm to a strong bullpen, but he has been unable to contribute much because of season-long injuries and illness.
