SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Patrick Corbin pitched seven solid innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks snapped their season-high four-game losing streak with an 8-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Saturday night. Corbin (4-0) gave up one run and five hits while striking out seven. He walked three while his ERA dropped to 1.80. Corbin has opened the season by pitching at least six innings and allowing two runs or less runs in his six starts -- all D-backs victories. He lost his shutout bid with two out in the seventh when Chris Denorfia hit his second homer into the second deck in left field. Denorfia also had a double. The D-backs touched up Padres starter Clayton Richard (0-4) for six runs on five hits in the second. Richard had never lost to the Diamondbacks, going 6-0. He left in the fourth after giving up seven runs. He didn't help himself in the second, committing a throwing error on Corbin's sacrifice bunt. A.J. Pollock followed with a two-run double. Pollock also had a so...

Padres fan catches foul ball barehanded while holding beverage (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. A San Diego Padres fan made an impressive barehanded catch of a foul ball with one hand while holding his beverage in the other during Saturday's game at Petco Park. It happened in the top of the second inning as Arizona Diamondbacks batter Martin Brado hit a line shot foul into the third base stands, where the fan snagged it out of...

Bell gets mixed response in return to San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- When Heath Bell entered the game in the eighth inning Saturday night, San Diego fans let him know exactly what they thought of his five mostly remarkable seasons here. Catcalls, combined with a smattering of appreciation. Three 40-save years does not buy much any more. Bell knew it was coming. He got the same thing last year, when he returned to Petco Park after signing...

San Diego Padres Activate James Darnell And Tyson Ross

The San Diego Padres activated third baseman and outfielder James Darnell and right handed pitcher Tyson Ross from the 15-day disabled list. Darnell will join the Triple-A Tacoma minor league affiliate where as Ross joins the Padres and will be used in relief until he can swing a bat. Once he is completely healthy, he will rejoin the rotation. On another note, the Padres have placed...

Padres place Richard on DL, activate Ross

The San Diego Padres placed winless left-hander Clayton Richard on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with an intestinal virus and activated right-hander Tyson Ross. Manager Bud Black said Richard has lost 12 pounds since getting sick during a series at San Francisco two weekends ago, although he's started to gain it back. The move came a day after Richard fell to 0-4 with an...

Headley: Contract talks a distraction

Padres third baseman Chase Headley says talk of a contract extension has become a distraction. The slugger says he spoke with team executive chairman Ron Fowler on Friday and explained his position that he didn't want to negotiate during the season. Says Headley: ''I'm trying to pour water on the fire as much as I can.'' Fowler, head of the ownership group...

Gregorius activated from DL, Marte sent down

The Diamondbacks reinstated shortstop Didi Gregorius from the seven-day disabled list on Saturday and optioned outfielder Alfredo Marte to Triple-A Reno. The 23-year-old Gregorius sustained a mild concussion after being struck in the head by a pitch from the Rockies' Josh Outman on April 26. He has hit safely in all seven games he's played in this season, hitting .407 with...

Finally, D-backs get to breathe a little easier

SAN DIEGO -- For a change, the Diamondbacks were able to step back and take a breath Saturday. After playing 21 games decided by two runs or fewer and a half a dozen that went extra innings, they found the refreshing blowout they have lacked. With early-season standouts Patrick Corbin and A.J. Pollock leading the way, the D-backs scored six runs in the second inning and put up a...

D-backs done in by Padres' Petco change

SAN DIEGO -- Eleven feet. It might as well have been a mile. Yonder Alonsos fly ball to deep right-center field Friday would have struck the auxiliary scoreboard and bounded back into play in every game at Petco Park in every year from 2004-12. After renovations, the ball easily cleared the new fence in front of the Jack Daniels party patio for a two-run home run, a blow that seemed...

One Female Slams Another During Playful Romp at Padres Game (Video)

I don’t know what exactly is going on here, but I’m very very excited. The folks over at Busted Coverage, dug up this wonderful clip of two females having some fun at a baseball game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres last night. Apparently, the Padres have some sort of in-game promotion involving the grabbing of bases, and these two barefooted women...

Struggles continue for D-backs' Kennedy

SAN DIEGO -- Ian Kennedy barreled through the Padres' lineup without his best stuff Sunday, so close to escaping trouble that it made the Diamondbacks' 5-1 loss that much more frustrating. After going 17 straight batters without giving up a hit, Kennedy hung changeups for home runs to two consecutive batters in the sixth inning, and that was that. Thats what sucks about...

Padres 7, Diamondbacks 6

Yonder Alonso hit a go-ahead, two-run homer off Wade Miley in the fifth inning and the San Diego Padres held on to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-6 Friday night for their seventh win in nine games. With the Padres trailing 3-2, Alonso drove a 2-2 pitch from Miley (2-1) into the Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 deck in right-center, his fourth. It would have been a home run even in Petco...

Reds uncover injury, return Mark Teahen to Diamondbacks

Last week, the Cincinnati Reds acquired utility player Mark Teahen from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for cash or a player to be named later. However, this trade was nixed over the weekend, as the Reds found an issue during Teahen's physical. After acquiring Teahen, the Reds uncovered a shoulder issue that the veteran apparently hadn't reported to the D'backs...
