Arizona Diamondbacks pitching prospect Jarrod Parker will have Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on Oct. 28. The team said in a statement that the surgery will be performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. The 20-year-old Parker, Arizona's first-round pick in 2007, went a combined 5-6 with a 3.14 ERA in 20 starts at Single-A Visalia and Double-A Mobile last season. Parker had been a candidate to join the Diamondbacks' rotation in 2010.
