From Arizona Diamondbacks Media Relations (PHOENIX) — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today they have recalled right-handed pitcher Rafael Rodriguez from Triple-A Reno and optioned infielder Tony Abreu to Reno, according to D-backs’ interim General Manager Jerry Dipoto. Rodriguez, 25, posted a 5-3 record and 3.04 ERA (17 ER in 50.1 IP) with 10 saves, 15 walks and 30 strikeouts over 37 games with Triple-A Salt Lake this season prior to being acquired with three other players from the Los Angeles Angels for Dan Haren on July 25. He also posted a 3.38 ERA (2 ER in 5.1 IP) with a walk and strikeout in 3 games with the Aces. Rodriguez compiled a 49-41 record and 4.54 ERA in 261 games (106 starts) during nine seasons in the Angels organization from 2002-10. He went 0-1 with a 5.58 ERA (22 ER in 30.2 IP) in 18 relief appearances over five different stints with the big league club last year and appeared in one game for the Angels this season.
