Fox Sports Arizona:
The Diamondbacks designated third baseman Cody Ransom for assignment on Monday, bringing to an end his extended slump that followed a red-hot start after he was called up to the majors on April 18.
Infielder Josh Bell was recalled from Triple-A Reno to fill Ransom's roster spot. Bell, 25, hit .381 with nine doubles, four home runs and 30 RBIs in 26 games with the Aces. He was acquired from the Orioles on April 21 for a player to be named later; Mike Belfiore was sent to Baltimore on May 12.
The 36-year-old Ransom started the month 6 for 15 with two homers and five RBIs but had struggled since. He went just 1 for 8 on the team's recent road trip and was 0 for 6 in the three-game series in Kansas City, with playing time at third base becoming less readily available due to Ryan Roberts' turnaround at the plate. Overall, Ransom hit .269 with four homers and 13 RBIs in 17 games with the D-backs.
Bell, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound switch hitter, appeared in 79 games with the Orioles from 2010-11, hitting .200 with three homers and 18 RBIs. Bell was originally selected by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2005 draft.

Hudson on track for Sunday return to rotation
PHOENIX Except for the haircut, Daniel Hudson looked the same when he returned to the Diamondbacks clubhouse Tuesday.
His appearance Monday was what mattered, and his strong showing has the Diamondbacks looking toward his return to the starting rotation this weekend.
Hudson gave up two runs in five innings in a rehab start at Class Triple-A Reno, an outing that left him positioned...
Justin Upton Leads NL in Strikeouts Looking
Justin Upton got off to a slow start in 2012, as discussed here last week. One area that has been particularly frustrating for Upton and for Diamondbacks fans is that he has struck out looking a league leading 20 times through his first 39 Games. Upton's overall strikeout rate in 2012 has increased from 18.7% in 2011 up to 23.8% in 2012, but that is actually the same as his...
Minor-leaguer Bell handed Diamondbacks' third base job
Josh Bell is a starting third baseman in the majors again. The Arizona Diamondbacks purchased Bell from Class AAA Reno and installed him as the starting third baseman Monday, a move the D-backs had been mulling on their recent road trip as a way to kick-start their sluggish offense. He was 1 for 3 with a single two strikeouts and a fielding error in a 6-1 loss to the Dodgers. ...
Arizona catcher Montero will rest groin for a couple of days
Catcher Miguel Montero was held out of Arizona's starting lineup Tuesday and is not expected to play Wednesday, manager Kirk Gibson said, but the Diamondbacks do not believe his strained left groin is DL-threatening. D-backs feeling left out again
PHOENIX The Diamondbacks shook things by adding a hitter to the roster Monday, but nothing could overcome their recent susceptibility to left-handed pitchers.
The D-backs have faced two kinds of pitchers lately, righties and wrongies.
They have beaten the last four right-handers they have faced and lost to the last five lefties.
