Every morning we recap the previous night’s games, news and notes so that you are up-to-date on everything baseball. As always you can follow us on Twitter (@BaseballProf) and like us on Facebook to get updated, fantasy-relevant news, tidbits and analysis.

1. Kyle Lohse was masterful, taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning before surrendering a single to Jose Reyes. Lohse isn’t overpowering, but he is always around the strike zone as he threw a first-pitch strike to 13 of 18 batters through the sixth inning last night.

2. Is Giancarlo Stanton going to survive in the new Marlins Park? I couldn’t help but be reminded of David Wright‘s first season at Citi Field after watching Stanton hit 400-foot fly outs not once, but twice right in front of those bright, neon green walls. It’s still too early to make any conclusions, but it’s not a great sign to start.

Extra note: Speaking of those green walls, how many people in Miami are going to go blind as a result? You better believe I’m working that contrast setting the next time I have to watch a Marlins home game. And don’t get me started on that home run display.

3. Josh Johnson gave up 10 hits for only the second time in his career, but before you overreact and go all crazy just remember that he is still healthy. Better days will come until his shoulder eventually gives out.

4. The Marlins’ fielding was suspect at best with Hanley Ramirez misplaying a grounder in between third and shortstop and Logan Morrison was worse than his usual self as he nurses a sore knee. Things will get better with time, but it could be a rocky start for the Marlins.

5. Brandon Belt made the cut and will start at first base for the Giants, although he could find himself in a platoon situation with Brett Pill. I hope for Belt’s sake that he gets off to a hot start because it seems like the organization just looks for reasons to send him back down to Triple-A. He might be the Giants’ third-best hitter right now.

6. That being said, Aubrey Huff as an every day left fielder is downright hilarious and will not last more than a month.

7. The Red Sox announced that they will be rolling with 13 starting pitchers to start the season, which is quite high considering all of the off days in the schedule to begin the year. This just shows you that while Alfredo Aceves was named the closer today, the Red Sox are quite unsure how their bullpen/rotation is going to sort itself out.

8. I’m not sure how Pedro Alvarez won a starting job on the Pirates, but with Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels as his first three opposing pitchers I can safely say that he will have at least eight strikeouts by Sunday.

9. Since it was a slow baseball night I thought that I would redirect you over to one of the coolest tools I have come across on the internet in a while — FanGraph’s age filters. You go to them for the stats and come to us for the analysis!

10. Everyone and their sister posted their predictions for the 2012 MLB season so here are mine. AL Playoff teams: NYY, DET, TEX, TB (wildcard), LAA (wildcard); AL Champ: TB; NL Playoff teams: PHI, CIN, SF, STL (wildcard), ARI (wildcard); NL Champ: PHI; World Series: TB over PHI.

11. And for my awards… AL MVP: Evan Longoria (TB); NL MVP: Joey Votto (CIN); AL Cy Young: Dan Haren (LAA); NL Cy Young: Madison Bumgarner (SF); AL ROY: Yu Darvish (TEX); NL ROY: Devin Mesoraco (CIN)

12. Wacky injury of the day goes to Rockies’ pitcher Josh Outman, who hurt his side vomiting and landed on the 15-day DL as a result. Thanks to his brother Zach’s Twitter account we know that the vomiting was a direct result from eating at Denny’s. [insert Grand Slam joke here].
