Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! I hope that all of you are having a safe weekend with whatever you have planned. I am still here in Peoria having a great time taking in some baseball and making me ever ready for opening day. Yesterday I was at the game against the Diamondbacks and was very impressed with what I saw. Tyson Ross was outstanding on the hill allowing very little offense to the snakes. Whenever he gave up a hit or a walk, Ross was able to pitch around the issue and get out of the inning. In fact he only gave up one hit in his 5 1/3 innings of work. He did give up three walks however, which were a little concerning, but he didn’t allow them to score. The runs started coming late in the game as Brandon Kloess had a rough outing giving up four runs. If you look at the final score you would think it was a close one throughout. Bad news for the Padres and their fans, as their star third baseman will miss at least the first month of the season with a broken thumb.
San Diego Padres third baseman Chase Headley will miss at least the first two weeks of the season after breaking the tip of his left thumb.
Headley was injured Sunday while sliding into second base trying to break up a double play. He went to San Diego, and an exam Monday revealed the fracture.
The injury is not likely to require surgery and will need about a month to heal.
Diamondbacks ace Ian Kenndey gave up consecutive homers then was hit on knee by a comebacker on next pitch, and Arizona lost 10-6 to the San Diego Padres on Saturday.
Kennedy bruised his left knee but should remain on his regular schedule. He left after getting hit and having allowed four runs in 3 2-3 innings, his first earned runs allowed this spring.

The 2012 National League leader in RBI will miss the start to the 2013 season. Chase Headley of the San Diego Padres jammed him thumb on a play at second base. The initial injury looked minor, but it turns out Headley has a small fracture.
According to Corey Brock of MLB.com, Headley's thumb fracture could cost him about a month.
