Over the last 14 days, Alcides Escobar has been a top ten fantasy baseball player. He has amassed 11 runs, 5 steals, and a .452 average over that time. Is it just a case of a guy getting lucky? Yeah, a little bit. His line drive rate has actually gone down almost 7% this month versus May, but his BABIP has jumped by more than 100 points this month. The average stat isn’t great, but one stat that won’t lie is the steals.
Escobar stole 42 bases in 109 games with Triple-A Nashville back in 2009. It was the last action he would see at the minor league level and the reason that fantasy folks were excited about him getting to the Majors. That speed hasn’t translated to the next level as of yet, but Escobar is enjoying much more opportunities in Kansas City than he did with the Brewers.
