Found June 17, 2012 on Fantasy Baseball 365:
Brandon Belt collected a hit in his fifth straight game last night and had a walk for the third time in five games. Previously his longest hitting streak was 3 games this season. That's because he has often been asked to come up as a pinch hitter, and has never been a consistent presence in the lineup. Fortunately for Belt, Aubrey Huff has been worse than anyone could have ever imagined and as his luck would have it Huff pulled a Kendry Morales during the Matt Cain perfect game. Belt is finally getting a chance, and this might be the week we look back on as the week that Belt finally arrived.

Belt was homerless, but broke out with homers in three consecutive games to start the mini hit streak he is currently on. Perhaps the most significant part of the barrage is that all three home runs came against lefties. That will make it even harder for Huff or any member of the Giants to eventually replace Belt in a platoon role. Finding free agents that will stay on a roster for the duration of a season is harder to do at this time of the year in mixed leagues, but it would appear that Belt has the potential to do that. He should be rostered if he is avaialble.

  • Brandon Beachy left his start against the Orioles in the 4th inning with elbow discomfort. Beachy bounced two curve balls to Chris Davis and then tried to throw a fastball, but his velocity was down in the mid-80s (Fangraphs has his average fastball at 91). Given that Beachy was pitching with more than a week of rest after feeling discomfort in his last start, he is likely heading to the DL. Hopefully it wasn't worse than a 15-day trip.
  • Tim Lincecum claims he wants the ball every fifth day for the Giants, but some are beginning to question if the Giants should skip him in the rotation to give him a mental break. Lincecum has not won since late April.
  • Ervin Santana was brilliant last night retiring the first 20 batters he faced. Of course nobody in a daily league benefitted from this outing out of fear from his last four starts when he allowed 23 earned runs in 20.1 innings.
  • Bud Norris has been scratched from his start today and a fellow by the name of Dallas Keuchel will get the start. Keuchel does not bring much to the table in terms of fantasy (46 strikeouts in 80 innings at Triple-A).
  • The Blue Jays have activated Brett Cecil to make his first start of the season today. Cecil had been in Double-A because poor performance at spring training. With Kyle Drabek possibly facing Tommy John surgery, Cecil will look to hang on in a suddenly wounded rotation.
  • Yoenis Cespedes was out yesterday and will be out again today for Oakland. In better news, Brandon McCarthy will start on Tuesday.

Brandon Belt Has Arrived

Over the past six games, Brandon Belt has put together a modest little hitting streak, during which time he’s collected eight hits — three of them homers — and drawn four walks. Not to mention, he’s only struck out in three of his 24 plate appearances. It’s only six games, but his performance over the last week has been enough to bring his overall seasonal line to .250...

Tim Lincecum Looks to Be a Shell of His Former Self, Giants Need to Adjust His Mindset Accordingly

He is a star pitcher for the San Francisco Giants. He has been consistently excellent during his career -- especially the last three seasons, in each of which he has reached double-digit wins and posted a sub-3.15 ERA. He has rocketed to an 8-2 start with 96 strikeouts this season, with a 2.18 ERA and a WHIP of 0.95. He recently authored what many are calling one of the most impressive...

Tim Lincecum: Could Bullpen Fix San Francisco Giants Ace?

The 2012 season has been a forgettable one for San Francisco Giants No. 1 starter Tim Lincecum. The two-time National League Cy Young Award winner has been awful through his first 14 starts this year and now the team is seriously considering moving the 28-year-old to the bullpen for a while to figure out whatever the heck is going on with him. Lincecum is currently 2-8 with a 6...

Giants place Huff on DL, bring up Christian

Aubrey Huff has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the San Francisco Giants after he sprained his right knee during the celebration for Matt Cain's perfect game against Houston. The Giants made the move before opening an interleague series in Seattle on Friday. They also purchased the contract of Justin Christian from Triple-A Fresno and put him in the starting lineup...

Tim Lincecum’s Aging Curve

Tim Lincecum has been one of the most interesting players in the majors since his rookie year in 2007.  This is partly due to the fact that he possesses a formidable fastball despite being listed at only 5’11” and 163 lbs.  It’s also partly due to his unorthodox windup, which also happens to be the reason he is able to throw harder than one would think.  And of course his...

Three Things Tim Lincecum Can Do To Fix His 2012 Season

Like I would know what Tim Lincecum has to do to turn his 2012 season around and straighten out his delivery mechanics. Get real. Same goes for speculation from anyone else who has an opinion but doesn't have a desk in Dave Righetti's office.Dozens of apparently out of work MLB pitching coaches have been contacting San Francisco sportstalk radio shows nonstop to tell the...

Tim Lincecum: Bad Luck or Bad Pitches?

After giving up five runs in five innings in Seattle on Saturday, Tim Lincecum‘s ERA now stands at 6.19. However, his 3.87 FIP and 3.82 xFIP stand in stark contrast to that mark, and his walk rate, strikeout rate, and home run (or fly ball) rate suggest that his process and results haven’t lined up in the season’s first two months. You can essentially trace the cause of his...

Giants 4, Mariners 2

Buster Posey led off the second inning with a solo home run into the second deck of the left field seats, National League hitting leader Melky Cabrera added a two-run shot in the eighth inning, and the San Francisco Giants opened a three-game interleague series with a 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. Posey turned on a hanging breaking ball from Seattle starter...

San Francisco Giants vs. Mariners betting odds and handicapping preview – June 16

MLB Interleague Matchup Insight Giants vs M’s Game 2 Ok I’ve been trying to get a read on the Mariners for a bit here with my bets, so I’ve been laying off for a couple weeks. I almost dropped some money on a few last week but glad I didn’t. I have a pretty good read on them right now though. I’m not sure Vegas does. San Francisco Giants vs Seattle Mariners Saturday June...

SF Giants Rumors: Tough Weekend, Back To Anaheim

The San Francisco Giants had a rough time in Seattle this weekend. They dropped 2-out-3 to lose the series. It’s the first road series loss for the Giants since May 7-9 at Chavez Ravine (Dodgers Stadium). Tonight the Giants head into Anaheim, and it’s the first time since the 2002 World Series. There is no current players on the Giants that were part of that 2002 world series...

Giants-Angels Preview

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said special moments like Matt Cain's perfect game "bring teams together even more." Having lost three of four since, the Giants may be hoping the right-hander has another gem in store Monday night. Cain will take the mound for the first time since making history last week, visiting a Los Angeles Angels team that's been...

Mariners 7, Giants 4

Tim Lincecum was hoping to stop the worst skid of his career when he pitched in front of family and friends during his homecoming Saturday night. It ended up being more of the same. Casper Wells and Jesus Montero greeted Lincecum with long first-inning home runs, Franklin Gutierrez's infield single in the sixth gave Seattle the lead for good and the Mariners snapped a six-game...

Recruiting

As of last week’s update in All-Star Voting, Melky Cabrera was in 4th place in NL All-Star Voting.  With 1.357 million votes, Cabrera followed only Matt Kemp, Carlos Beltran and Ryan Braun.  He trails the reigning MVP by just under 100,000 votes.  It’s hard to argue with those names ahead of him, I admit. But following Melky?  Andre Ethier, just a little over 200,000 votes...

Game Preview 6/18/12: Prepare Thy Rear

@San Francisco Giants @ Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Pitching Probables: SFG –  Matt Cain (8-2, 2.18 ERA)  LAA – Jerome Williams (6-4, 4.20 ERA) Game Info: 7:05 PM PT; TV - Fox Sports West; Radio - KLAA 830 Mr. Perfecto is making a stop in Anaheim to face off against the man who just can't be beat at home Jerome Williams. This seems to be a classic case of Unstoppable...

SF Giants Rumors: Up Next, Belt’s Hot, Cain’s Hat And Glove, Huff To DL

The San Francisco Giants were unable to finish off the Astros by getting the sweep, but they still won the series! The Giants end their homestand by going 3-3. They now hit the road to play 9 Inter-League games against the Mariners, Angels and Athletics.   Brandon Belt is in the zone, as he’s hit a home run in 3 consecutive games. I’m guessing Belt will be starting tonight,...
