Rajai Davis has stolen five bases in six attempts in just three games since his return to the Blue Jays. He is not in the lineup tonight because of a neck injury, but I don’t think it’s anything to be too alarmed about since the injury that put him on the DL was related to his ankle. Davis has only reached base seven times, and one of those came on a triple.
All six of these stolen base attempts came against the Yankees. Trying to make a judgment about the frequency with which Davis will run from just that sample is hard to do, but considering that the Blue Jays are third in steals and second in steal attempts without Davis for almost two-thirds of the season he is a candidate to lead the world in steals from this day forward. As is often the case with great base stealers (Willy Taveras comes to mind), the question will be whether Davis can steal first.
