by John Viril— The digital age has completely transformed how fans interact with their favorite ballplayers.  Social media savy players now regularly communicate with fans in real time on platforms like Twitter and Facebook. For those familiar with the media, players can display pieces of their personality that were mostly hidden from fans. Pitcher Danny Duffy is one of those guys. He regularly regales Royals fans with humorous tweets. His Tommy John surgery and long recovery has done nothing to dim his outlook or slow down his outrageous sense of humor. Today, Duffy was in fine form on Twitter as he launched friendly jabs at James Shields during Shields’ Thursday afternoon start against Detroit (an 8-3 Royals victory). Multiple fans compared him to Chuck Norris. Another claimed that Shields’ Changeup inspired 5 world religions in 15 different languages. I added that the Chiefs would pass up the legendary Leon Sandcastle in favor of Shields for the 1st pick of today’s NFL draft. Let’s hope that Danny Duffy comes back strong from his elbow surgery. The team could use a guy like that in the clubhouse—and owner David Glass certainly needs an ambassador like him on Twitter. Most of all, Danny Duffy reminds us that baseball should be fun.
