by John Viril— The digital age has completely transformed how fans interact with their favorite ballplayers.  Social media savy players now regularly communicate with fans in real time on platforms like Twitter and Facebook. For those familiar with the media, players can display pieces of their personality that were mostly hidden from fans. Pitcher Danny Duffy is one of those guys. He regularly regales Royals fans with humorous tweets. His Tommy John surgery and long recovery has done nothing to dim his outlook or slow down his outrageous sense of humor. Today, Duffy was in fine form on Twitter as he launched friendly jabs at James Shields during Shields’ Thursday afternoon start against Detroit (an 8-3 Royals victory). Chris Dwyer is back on the Radar

by John Viril— With the Royals enduring yet another rainout on Friday, I decided to look at AAA Omaha. And, lo and behold, I noticed a familiar name pop out in the pitching stats: Chris Dwyer. Two years ago, back when Kansas City’s farm system was praised as one of the best decades, analysts marveled at their amazing prospect depth. One of the strongest features of the system...

Royals wont demote slumping Moose, Hosmer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Royals fans no doubt are delighting in the team's 10-7, first-place start to the season. But if there is cause for concern anywhere it is the painfully slow starts from first baseman Eric Hosmer (.261, no homers, four RBIs) and Mike Moustakas (.158, no homers, one RBI). There has even been suggestions on Kansas City sports-talk shows of the Royals shipping...

Will Smith Whiffing his way to KC

by John Viril— Ever since pitcher Will Smith was traded to the Kansas City organization, he’s been nothing but an afterthought. He arrived from the Los Angeles Angels along with P Sean O’Sullivan in a July 2010 trade for Royals 3B Alberto Callaspo. At the time, O’Sullivan had already appeared in 11 major league games and was considered the more advanced prospect while Smith...

I really like this Lorenzo Cain fellow

In a way, the 2013 performance of center fielder Lorenzo Cain is bittersweet. On one hand, I’m glad he’s playing well, especially with the struggling Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas in the lineup. But if Cain stayed healthy last year, would he play as well in 2012 as he is now? It’s hard to say, but Cain played well before various leg injuries limited him to 61 games, ending...

Indians-Royals game rained out

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Just what the Kansas City Royals did not need was another off day. The Royals and Cleveland Indians were rained out Friday night with the game postponed about 30 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. The game has been rescheduled as a doubleheader Sunday, the first day-night doubleheader in Kauffman Stadium history. The Royals have had six days off in...

Royals look to end seven-game skid in Detroit

(AP) -- The Kansas City Royals are in an unfamiliar position atop the AL Central and hope to make a big statement against the two-time defending division champions. That may be difficult in a place that has given them fits lately, though the Detroit Tigers are hardly playing well. Wade Davis will try to help the Royals end their seven-game skid in Detroit in the opener of this...

Royals 8, Tigers 3(10)

Alex Gordon's grand slam highlighted a five-run 10th inning for the Kansas City Royals, who rallied against the Detroit bullpen for an 8-3 win Thursday after Tigers ace Justin Verlander left with a thumb injury. George Kottaras put the Royals ahead 4-3 with a bases-loaded walk off Phil Coke (0-3). Darin Downs came on for Detroit after that, but Gordon broke the game open one...

Shields battles Verlander at noon on FSKC

(AP) -- Neither the Detroit Tigers nor the Kansas City Royals saw their starting pitcher turn in a great outing in Wednesday's opener of the shortened series, both struggling through unseasonably cold conditions. With Thursday's forecast looking a bit warmer, Justin Verlander and James Shields likely have better performances in mind as they take the mound for their respective...

Tribe Notes: A Kansas City Preview

Lets take a break from draft talk for a moment to get back to our Cleveland Indians. A four-game road set with the first place (yeah, you read this correctly) Kansas City Royals starts tonight and once again, the Tribe is searching for some consistency. The offense has been hot and cold – mostly cold – and has started to show a little bit more of that speed we expected to see...

Royals not surprised by their success

The Royals are my surprise team. They're probably your surprise team. Your aunt, your accountant, your yoga instructor, your favorite barista -- I'm told they picked the Royals as their surprise team, too. Three weeks into the season, the Royals lead the American League Central. They're not surprised. "We're a good team," James Shields, the new Kansas...

Royals-Tigers game postponed by rain

Now the series between the Royals and Tigers takes on a new level of intrigue. Wade Davis against Max Scherzer on Wednesday. James Shields against Justin Verlander on Thursday. Those pitching matchups came about because Kansas City and Detroit were rained out Tuesday night. That was supposed to be the opener of a three-game series between the up-and-coming Royals and the defending...
