Do you know what happens when you complain too much about Hawk Harrelson? The baseball gods decide you don’t get to see any more Rangers-White Sox match-ups. Or at least none of them this weekend. Sigh. I suppose it’s OK I didn’t get to see tonight’s disappointing game.  I watched the Olympic Opening Ceremonies and listened to Nadel on MLB Audio.  And Nadel let me know exactly what I wasn’t missing out on. Coming into this game, Yu Darvish was 59-0 (going back to starts in Japan) in games when he was given four runs of support.  That streak ended tonight.  With a sad trombone.  Darvish really didn’t help his case much.  He gave up six runs, including five earned, and only made it to the 7th inning.  When he left the mound, there was a runner on and Texas was trailing 5-4. Alexi Ogando, who seems to be broken since his return from the DL, let that run score.  Along with three of his own over the next two-plus innings. But it didn’t much matter. The Rangers’ offense couldn’t get anythi

Josh Hamilton praying for fans booing him amid slump

Josh Hamilton is in the middle of an ugly stretch, hitting just .190 since the start of June and failing to get a single hit with runners in scoring position in July. Rangers fans are starting to get cranky. Boos emanating from the crowd at the Ballpark in Arlington are beginning to be noticeable and are growing. Hamilton, of course, has heard the booing, and he says he’s not...

Hamilton remains upbeat despite rough week

ARLINGTON, Texas A tough week for Texas slugger Josh Hamilton took another turn Saturday when he was given what Texas manager Ron Washington termed a mental day off. Hamilton is hitting .284 on the season and batting .206 over the last 55 games. That .206 number is better than the current slide he's in as Hamilton is hitting just .119 over the last 16 games and has 19 strikeouts...

Rangers introduce super-sized nachos

ARLINGTON, Texas Texas Rangers veteran pitcher Roy Oswalt joked to Robbie Ross that the rookie lefty had made the big time. Maybe if the big time involves an expanded waistline. The organization that's responsible for introducing ballpark nachos to the country in the 1970s has taken things up a notch with the unveiling of the Totally Rossome nachos, with the name a tip of...

Josh Hamilton’s Issues Continue

Josh Hamilton’s poor play in July came to a head on Saturday.  The Texas Rangers All-Star was held out of the lineup against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night, due to what manager Ron Washington called “a mental break.” There are no reported injuries being attributed to Hamilton’s lack of production this month.  Hamilton himself has credited this slump to a lack of...

Loss doesn't overshadow season for Harrison

ARLINGTON, Texas There was a time when the Rangers' struggles on offense might have affected starter Matt Harrison. Harrison has since become a more focused pitcher, but it didn't help in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the White Sox that he had a slightly below-par performance in an otherwise stellar season. While the Rangers where 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position...

Washington: We can use a good pitcher

ARLINGTON, Texas With the trade deadline looming, Texas manager Ron Washington wouldn't mind seeing his club add something to the roster before Tuesday's non-waiver deadline. "We can use a good pitcher," Washington said when asked if the club needed a No. 1 pitcher. "We need a lot of things. If it happens to be a No. 1 Jon Daniels gets, if he gets it, fine...

Texas Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels will be featured in the next episode of FOX Sports Southwests popular IN MY OWN WORDS series set to premiere on Sunday, July 29 at 5:00 p.m. CT. The 30-minute interview-style show goes up close and personal with Daniels as he discusses his fast-rising career, explains how he juggles his family life with his baseball life, and reviews the...

Darvish, Rangers lose opener with White Sox

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Alejandro De Aza hit a two-run single before leaving the game after an outfield collision, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Texas Rangers 9-5 Friday night in a series opener between American League division leaders. Chris Sale rebounded from a shaky start to earn his 12th win and the White Sox got homers from Kevin Youkilis and Alexei Ramirez in their...

Nolan Ryan's Criticism of Josh Hamilton Warranted, May Provide Insight Into Team's Thinking Regarding Free Agency

Everybody can agree that Josh Hamilton is mind-bogglingly talented -- even for a five-time All-Star and former MVP, and especially for somebody who was completely out of baseball for three years as he grappled with recovering from debilitating addictions. Even baseball's Superman, however, has his kryptonite. For Hamilton, that kryptonite is pitches out of the strike zone. It...

Rangers’ offense remains flat

Another night.  Another bad performance by the Rangers’ offense.  Another lost game. (By the way, I got to watch this one.  By some miracle, it was not blacked out.) Matt Harrison held his own for the first three innings.  Even though the bats weren’t doing anything, he was giving them every chance to get in it.  I guess he gave up after that because the White Sox got five...

The True Red and Blue: Carter

Boy, the Rangers had a lot of off-days in July.  I hope they enjoyed them because there are only two in August and two in September.  Whew.  We’re on the downhill swing of the season, folks.  Hang on. While trade rumors continue to swirl, let’s meet another one of my Rangers tweeps — Carter Dotson of San Antonio (and soon Chicago). ——————– When and how did...

Hamilton hears boo-birds in Arlington

A new chapter in Josh Hamilton's long slump began Friday night. Call it the booing stage. For the first time since he joined the Texas Rangers, Hamilton was booed noticeably at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The boos came following a pair of strikeouts Friday in Texas' 9-5 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Hamilton went 0-for-4 to extend his current drought to 0-for-12....

Rangers face tight market for outfield help

The Texas Rangers have a very good outfield as is: Josh Hamilton in left, Craig Gentry in center, Nelson Cruz in right, David Murphy as a reserve. So if they upgrade, it would have to be with a true impact player. But at this point, it’s unclear how many elite outfielders are truly available. Colorado’s Carlos Gonzalez, who could ultimately succeed Hamilton as the Rangers’...

Josh Hamilton is about to fall off the wagon again

Any time a multi-millionaire semi-stabilizing recovering crackhead starts to have trouble doing the thing he’s best at and then publicly describes himself as ”out of sorts mentally” there should be cause for concern. Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton started the season hitting the ball like a Triple Crown winner over the months of April and May,

Olt keeping his focus on the field

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – While third baseman Mike Olt is hearing his name mentioned in trade rumors for the second consecutive year, the Texas Rangers are hesitant to give him up for a summer rental player. Lone Star Dugout features and interviews the 23-year-old prospect, who talked about the trade rumors and his development this season.
