Darwin Barney is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday. Barney will report to Triple-A Iowa.
Barney was placed on the 15-day disabled list April 1 with a deep gash in his left knee.
The Cubs are hopeful that Barney will be back in the major league lineup come early next week. Barney was a .254/.299/.354 hitter last year and won a gold glove for his defense at second base.

The Iowa Cubs are off to a fantastic 0-6 start after losing yet again last night.
Chris Rusin threw 6 innings and allowed 7 hits and 4 runs. He walked 4, hit a batter, allowed a home run and struckout only 2. To give up only 4 runs was rather lucky. In two starts Rusin has walked and struckout 6, allowed 7 runs (6 earned) on 11 hits in 11 IP. He...
Highly-touted Chicago Cubs prospect Jorge Soler was ejected from a Florida State League game on Tuesday night after he charged the opposing dugout with a bat. You read that correcty: he charged the other team's dugout while brandishing a bat.
I'll let the report from Jonathan Raymond of MiLB.com explain the exact details.
According to Daytona's broadcast team...

In Brooks Raley’s first start of the season he allowed a bunch of hits, didn’t strike many out and walked nearly as many as he struckout. Last night he went 7 innings, allowed 8 hits and 2 runs. He struckout 7 and walked 0. Raley might prove to be valuable in the bullpen, but as a starter, he leaves a lot to be desired. He’s good depth, I...

Today, there was yet another unfortunate incident revolving around the Chicago Cubs and a goat. I am truly pained that this is a subject that needs to be talked about, but because there are some truly sick people in the world, and apparently in Chicago, this is a topic that sadly needs to be addressed.
In case you are new to being a Cubs fan, the team is supposedly cursed because...

After rarely coming through when they needed to previously this season, the Chicago Cubs' offense provided some timely hits to end a four-game skid on Tuesday.
Chicago hopes that can continue on Wednesday night as it looks to take the series finale from the visiting Milwaukee Brewers.
The Cubs (3-5) didn't show much promise early in Tuesday's bid to end their losing streak...
The Cubs will get a whiff of success this weekend, and it will probably be coming from the other dugout. (Blatantly plagarized from Brett's preview blurb at Bleacher Nation, because it's too funny. Take that, Paul Sullivan. Or something.) The Cubs are on a roll, not having lost for two straight days. The Giants, meanwhile, have crushed all before them and are coming off...
