Darwin Barney is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday. Barney will report to Triple-A Iowa.
Barney was placed on the 15-day disabled list April 1 with a deep gash in his left knee.
The Cubs are hopeful that Barney will be back in the major league lineup come early next week. Barney was a .254/.299/.354 hitter last year and won a gold glove for his defense at second base.
