I'm a David Freese fan. You're a David Freese fan. As long as 2011 exists as a year, we'll all be David Freese fans. Doesn't mean he's making it easy to say such things... Mr. Freese has played in 27 games in 2013 and taken 91 ABs. He's hitting .209 and has only 7 fewer walks PLUS hits than strikeouts. In short, he's having a miserable start to 2013. What struck me when I was digging into the numbers wasn't how itsy-bitsy his 2013 line was, but instead, it was just how  his career stats don't really belie his stature with the Cardinals. Quick: David Freese, replaced at 3B. That's the headline. You think the reaction is muted in St. Louis? Heck no. It's a riot. But over the course of 3 full seasons and parts of 2009 and 2013, you know how many HRs he's hit? 35. RBIs? 181. Runs 150. Not to be trite, but that's kind of what Pujols did fairly regularly for the Cardinals in a season (maybe a bit longer than a se...

Grand slam brings relief to Cardinals' Freese

ST. LOUIS David Freese has heard from pretty much everyone. That's how it works when you're the local kid playing for the hometown team. When your swing is sweet, the attention is great. When you're stuck the stinkiest stretch of hitting you've ever had, it can be a little much. "There are so many people trying to help me," Freese said. Whether it comes...

Shoulder issues plague Jaime Garcia again. Will Michael Wacha get the call?

Perhaps the Cardinals could use Chris Carpenter in the rotation after all? Just when you thought the Cardinals pitching staff was chugging along and nothing could stop them, they lose two pitchers in less than a week.  Nearly a week after placing Jake Westbrook on the DL with elbow inflamation, Jaime Garcia was put on the DL today with a left shoulder impingment.  Mitchell Boggs...

Rookie pitchers are owning the spotlight in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS Randy Choate has pitched for seven teams in his 13-year career. The 37-year-old reliever is the oldest player on the St. Louis Cardinals' active roster, which means he's got a lot of wisdom to share with newcomers. But this season, on this team, few have needed it. "I think you have to tell them more when they look like they start to get overwhelmed,"...

With the right-hander going for his seventh win, the Cardinals look to keep rolling Saturday night at Busch Stadium against a Milwaukee Brewers team they've dominated this season.
