David Ortiz is a very loving man, unless, of course, you’re a dugout telephone. He proved that again Thursday night in Kansas City.
Prior to the Red Sox’ game with the Kansas City Royals, Ortiz ended up with a baby in his arms. It wasn’t his baby, but there was a baby in his arms nonetheless. The baby remained in his arms as the national anthem started, so Ortiz did what any good father would do — he kept holding the baby.
That led to a terrific photo opportunity for an Associated Press photographer who snapped the picture of Ortiz and the baby taking in the anthem. But where oh where did this little thing come from? ESPN.com’s Gordon Edes tweeted an explanation, saying that [Ortiz said fan handed him the child for a photo, then the anthem started.” Mystery solved.
Check out the adorable photo below.

"Big Papi") did not play in Thursday's game, but was dressed in uniform and actually held a fan's baby during the National Anthem before the game. Ortiz has apparently calmed down after his raging outburst where he smashed a Camden Yards dugout phone with his bat late last month...
Speaking with WEEI on Tuesday, Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz continues to deny cheating and remains baffled by how he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003. Currently hitting .326 with 21 homers and 73 RBI in 356 at bats, Ortiz was identified in 2009 by The New York Times as one of approximately 100 ballplayers pinched for doping last decade. “A lot of things...
As we all know, “Papi” means “Daddy” in English, so “Big Papi” David Ortiz demonstrated that it’s more than just a clever moniker when he took a BoSox fan’s baby from the dad and held the little bundle of joy during the performance of the National Anthem before the Boston Red Sox-Kansas City Royals game […]The post David Ortiz holds Red Sox fan’s baby during National...

David Ortiz still has questions about the positive drug test he reportedly had in 2003 that wasn't revealed until 2009.
Hopefully, it's just a routine day off. Red Sox DH David Ortiz—who just had back-to-back four hit games for the first time in his career—is sitting out tonight's game in Kansas City. Mike Napoli—who did not have four hits either day—will be the team's designated hitter. Daniel Nava—back from paternity leave—will play first base.

Prior to the start of the game, a gentleman asked Ortiz if he would mind taking a picture while holding [...]
When he's not wreaking havoc on opposing pitchers or dugout telephones, David Ortiz can be quite the gentle giant he's always described as.
Case in point. Last night, during a cute moment before Thursday's Boston Red Sox game in which Big Papi was signing an autograph for a fan, who then asked Ortiz to pose for a picture with his baby. That's when Ortiz took...
David Ortiz enjoyed the National Anthem on Thursday night with a baby. Not his baby, rather one who had come to see Ortiz and the Red Sox play in Kansas City.
Ortiz seemed pretty comfortable out there with the baby but then again when you are ‘Big Papi’ how can you not be cool around kids?
Before the start of Thursday's game in Kansas City, David Ortiz was shaking hands and kissing babies. Literally.
Big Papi was holding a Sox fan's baby for some photo's prior to the game. However, the national anthem started and Big Papi did what any good American would do - he took off his hat and held onto the newest member of Red Sox Nation...

The biggest news in baseball has nothing to with actual baseball being played on the diamond. Well, it sort of does considering that the guy on the field shouldn’t really be on the field and sort of be on the field at the same time. The player is Alex Rodriguez who recently was suspended through the end of 2014 for his involvement in the Biogenesis Clinic. The suspension is why...
Just when it looked like Jon Lester was back on track after two wins to close out July, he took a giant leap back against the Diamondbacks last Friday.
Lester allowed six runs on 11 hits against Arizona in four 1/3 innings of work. He didn’t factor in the decision, though, as Boston was able to come back despite being down late. Lester’s ERA is now up to 4.52, while his record...
Poor Johnny Damon made the most of his talent and parlayed that into a $111 million career. But when asked about PEDs recently mostly whined about his career being over. Also reported in the same post was that Damon said that the 2009 title with the Yankees might now be tainted (in response to the Alex Rodriguez news). Well, give back your ring and World Series share, Johnny, and...
6:14 p.m.: David Ortiz is coming off back-to-back four-hit games, but he won’t be in Thursday’s starting lineup.
Ortiz will get the night off with lefty Bruce Chen on the mound. It’ll be Ortiz’s first day off since July 5, and Jonny Gomes will bat cleanup in his place. Gomes will man left field and Daniel Nava will play first base, while Mike Napoli will assume Ortiz’s...
Stephen Drew hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth to rally the Boston Red Sox to a 7-5 victory over the Houston Astros on Wednesday night.
David Ortiz had four hits and Jonny Gomes also hit a home run for the Red Sox, who have won seven of their last nine games.
Robbie Grossman had two hits, including a homer, and Jason Castro added two hits for the Astros, who have dropped...
