David Ortiz spoke from the heart during Saturday’s pregame ceremony to honor the victims and heroes of the Boston Marathon tragedy. And that’s A-OK with MLB commissioner Bud Selig. Selig, like FCC chairman Julius Genachowski, thinks Ortiz’s message — while colorful — was perfect for the occasion. “It was really emotional for me,” Selig said of the Fenway ceremony, according to USA Today. “I actually cried through the whole ceremony. I’m not afraid to tell you that. On one hand it was so uplifting, so sad in another way. “I agree with the FCC. I thought David Ortiz’s choice of words was outstanding given what he was trying to say. I mean that sincerely.” Ortiz, of course, turned heads and sent the crowd into a frenzy while delivering a pregame message on Fenway Park infield. “This is our [expletive] city, and nobody is going to dictate our freedom. Stay strong,” Ortiz said. Ortiz said after the game that the F-word wasn’t pre-planned, and that it “just came out” amid the emotional message. “If I offended anybody, I apologize, but I feel like this town needs to be pumped,” Ortiz said.
