Lady At The Bat:
New York Yankees
Toronto Blue Jays
Tampa Bay Rays
Chicago White Sox
Boston Red Sox
I'm not sure there's any good way to look at yesterday's game. Every positive was countered by a horrible negative. The Yankees lost 8-4 to the Blue Jays--the AL East's last place team. I guess the one good thing is that it was only game #17 and the Yankees are still going strong in the AL East (2nd place). You can say Nova kept the team in the game until manager Joe Girardi didn't trust him enough to finish what he started in the 6th and brought out Looney . . . I mean Booney. Boone Logan was successful against lefty Colby Rasmus in the past so it wasn't a decision out of left field. We just get to question it now that we know it didn't work out. The disaster continued when starter turned reliever (but should always be ready to start) David Phelps who was responsible for 3 of the Toronto's 8 runs. Which brings me to what fans should really be worried about--the up and down, unpredictable, starter-reliever mismanagement of the Yankees young pitchers....

In the ninth inning of yesterday's bullpen-fueled heart attack, new Yankee Travis Hafner spat upon a grand tradition that extends to the final whiffs of the Giambino Curse: Facing an overwhelming defensive shift - six fielders jammed onto the right side - instead of taking his normal cuts, the honorable strikeout for a Yankee slugger, Hafner laid down a bunt.Naturally, he was...
Tyler Austin (Photo: Trenton Thunder on Facebook)
New York Yankees outfield prospect Tyler Austin burst onto the scene in 2012, covering three minor league levels, plus a rehab stint in the Gulf Coast League. Austin led the Yankees’ system in batting average for the second straight year, and vaulted himself into the top five on Baseball America’s annual prospect rankings for...
The New York Yankees received bad news on Derek Jeter on Thursday. The news was that there was a small crack in the same ankle that he broke back in October. Jeter will now be out until at least after the All Star Break. The question now is what should the Yankees do??
Eduardo Nunez has been playing shortstop and the ironic thing is he has been a guy that has a lot of offensive...
The Yankees hope to have some of their injured stars back in the Bronx soon.
Since the Yankees are down in Tampa for a three-game series, it’s a good idea to check in on some of the players who are injured and working on returning to the field. Here are some injury news and notes:
Kevin Youkilis (stiff back): Youkilis was taken out of Saturday’s game early with back stiffness...
There have been stranger ways of getting to the top of one’s profession, but Mariano “Mo” Rivera went from being a humble fisherman to being the best closer that MLB has ever seen.
His story has even greater significance to it, considering that he played his entire career for the most storied franchise in Major League Baseball. When he retires at the end of this season, he...
New York captain Derek Jeter is expected to be in a walking boot when he rejoins his teammates Thursday for the start of a homestand at Yankee Stadium.
Jeter found out last Thursday that he fractured the ankle for a second time in six months, a blow to a New York team already reeling from injuries and one that raises long-term questions about the future of a shortstop who will be...
An anti-Red Sox shirt with an unfortunate phrase on it made for rival Yankee fans has been 'removed from distribution' in light of the tragedies in Boston.
Kevin Youkilis is out of the New York Yankees' lineup because of a bad back, one day after his return from a six-game layoff.
Youkilis played first base and was 0 for 3 with a walk in New York's 5-4 win Saturday against Toronto. Yankees manager Joe Girardi decided not to start him in Sunday's finale of the four-game series.
Girardi says that while Youkilis felt OK Saturday...
The New York Yankees don’t want you heckling their bullpen, those guys have a hard enough time keeping a lead for Mariano Rivera to finish teams off. This isn’t too much of a problem at their home park, but they take it very seriously while the team travels, as Justin Jackson of Sportto Network pointed out after the Yanks visited the Blue Jays this past weekend: I and many others...
The Yankees’ security entourage is so good that it can even spot trouble north of the border.
Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports that the Yankees’ security detail had a hand in Blue Jays fans being kicked out of a recent game for heckling pitchers as they were warming up in the bullpen.
Security guards traveling with the Yankees pointed out the fans and asked Toronto...
Brace yourself Yankees and baseball fans alike. One of the game’s young premier hitters, Robinson Cano is the latest name that’s being tied to the infamous Miami Biogenesis clinic.
CBSlocal.com is reporting that the slugger is being linked to the same clinic which was tied back to other players, including teammate Alex Rodgriguez.
Cano’s foundation spokeswoman Sonia Cruz...

On this day 110 years ago the New York Yankees, then known as the Highlanders, won the first game in franchise history. After dropping their inaugural game to the Senators the day before, the Highlanders topped Washington at American League Park in a 7-2 victory. Right-hander Harry Howell, with the help of a nasty spitball, allowed...
I do not often try to cross post, but I liked this a lot today. So check it out on It's About the Money, Stupid. With all due apologies to Joba Chamberlain.
An auction house in New Jersey pulled a New York Yankees jersey that Reggie Jackson claimed was the one that he wore when he had his historic three-home run game during the 1977 World Series. After no one bid on the legendary pinstriped top, an alert memorabilia expert discovered it was the wrong shirt and it was yanked from the block.
The retired Yankees great said he kept the...
