Toronto Blue Jays rookie Davis Schneider continues to make headlines. He has now recorded the second-highest OPS in his last 20 games. Back on August 4th, Schneider was called up to the big leagues, and in his first major league at-bat, he hit his first homer. Many may have thought that his offensive power would not continue to sprinkle and that it was beginners’ luck. But this has not been the case for the 24-year-old mustache hero. Schneider has been one of the Blue Jays most consistent hitters and has been a pleasant surprise. It was not anticipated that he would be a home-run-hitting machine and a player that they could turn to in critical moments.

OPS Star

Babe Schneider has not remained quiet at the plate and continues to make history for the Blue Jays. He is right behind Marcell Ozuna of the Atlanta Braves to earn the second-highest OPS of 1.358. In addition, his OPS beats Mookie Bets of the LA Dodgers who has posted a 1.310 OPS. When you are making headlines with offense and surpassing the greats your hard work should never go unnoticed and unrecognized.

His impressive OPS heightens the notion that Schneider deserves to be in the lineup every day. Although the Oakland Athletics avoided the sweep against the Jays on September 6th, Schneider hit his seventh home run of the season. Schneider’s homer helped to keep both fans and his teammates’ dream of sweeping the Athletics alive. But unfortunately, Toronto’s bats were not able to come out big in the ninth inning. Schneider has proved that he is an important piece of the puzzle for the Blue Jays success and that he can help them win. When you have such a high OPS, matchups and other factors should not be a factor for sitting him on the bench. Overall, when you’re battling for a spot in the postseason you utilize your hottest hitters.

Mustache Power

His impressive stats just continue to come crawling in and make headlines on social media. Schneider has earned himself a 1.7 fWar (wins above replacement) in 19 games and it’s groundbreaking. But to add to the icing on the cake this number has jumped to 2.0 after 20 games. Schneider has definitely granted himself worthy of being one of the Jays hottest hitters and he prevails as a rookie sensation that has silenced critics. It is evident that his bat is lethal and significant and that he is capable of crushing balls out of any ballpark. The best part is that this is just the beginning for Schneider. It will be exciting to see how they will utilize his role in the 2024 season along with their other top prospects.

Back on August 31st, Schneider yet again recorded another impressive OPS stat. He posted an OPS of 1.420 which is the best OPS in 14 games in the records of American League history. So, whoever said that Schneider wouldn’t be successful being called up to the big leagues was definitely misguided. Schneider has made Blue Jays fans’ hopes and dreams of remaining in the wildcard race more than possible. His legendary success against the Boston Red Sox which helped them sweep the series back in the beginning of August will forever be a cherished memory. Schneider has made things look so easy at the plate and his confidence, competitive drive and stamina have made him a fan favorite. He’s become the little man with big aspirations, a big swing, and of course a not-so-little mustache.

Dressed For Success

Toronto will need to continue to battle and sustain urgency if they want to remain in the Wild Card race. It has been rejuvenating to see Schneider gain a lot of the attention that he has been getting as he has earned it. His OPS success has been more than enough for him to obtain respect as a rookie. As well, he has definitely made an impression on his teammates such as Brandon Belt. Back on August 31st, Belt called him “Babe Schneider” and talked about how he has made playing in the majors look easy. When you are making an impact on Veterans like Belt you know you are doing something right. Congratulations to Schneider on sustaining an impressive OPS and here’s to hoping that he can carry on with his successful offensive with the Blue Jays.
