Flushing—Ike Davis homered twice including a walk off in the ninth and Jeremy Hefner pitched a beauty of an outing to lead the New York Mets (59-69) to a 2-1 victory over the Houston Astros (40-88). The Mets took two out of three from the Astros for only their second series win of the second half and first at home since early July. Jeremy Hefner was fantastic today. He pitched eight innings of shutout ball and Terry Collins sent him out there with 99 pitches under his belt to start the ninth and complete the shutout. He couldn’t get the job done as Lucas Duda dropped a slicing ball in left field which led to an RBI double by Marwin Gonzalez to tie the game. Hefner finished off with a no-decision on the day. His final line was eight innings, one run on five hits and one walk. Ike Davis clobbered a cutter from Astros starter Lucas Harrell in the fourth inning to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
