by John Viril— Kansas City GM Dayton Moore knows that his time is short. You can see it in every move he makes and in everything he says. If Moore does not win soon, he’s going to be out of a job. That’s the only way to make sense of Moore’s latest roster moves and comments. Today, Moore sent 2B Johnny Giavotella and P Everett Teaford back to AAA, and recalled 2B Chris Getz and P Kelvin Herrera. Meanwhile, recent waiver claim Pedro Ciriaco cleared waivers and was outrighted to Omaha. While rotating Teaford back to Omaha in favor of Herrera should not surprise anyone, pulling the plug on Giavotella after 38 ABs in favor of Getz smells like desperation. Manager Ned Yost told, ”We’ve got to go — it’s time to go, so we’ve got to make sure we’ve got as many hot guys in that lineup as we can get in there.” If you’re looking for an offensive boost from a guy with a career .623 OPS, then you really are grasping at straws. While Giavotella has struggled in his 414 career at bats (.606

The Royals Haven’t Learned from the Royals

It was last offseason that the Royals picked up James Shields from the Rays in a controversial blockbuster. The Royals wanted to improve their pitching staff and take big steps toward the playoffs. The Rays were looking to reload with young cost controlled talent, as always, and they saw an offer they couldn’t pass up. Sure enough, the Royals are on pace to be improved by a few...

Buyers or sellers: Kansas City Royals

Oh, the Royals. There has been a lot said about this team this season by people much more passionate and knowledgeable than myself after Kansas City GM Dayton Moore said he's not going to be selling at the deadline. The article I linked above pretty much outlines exactly what the Royals need to do at the trade deadline. No one is advocating that they trade Eric Hosmer, or...

Royals' Getz: 'We're still in it'

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Royals second baseman Chris Getz is back, and he says he is ready to help the Royals make their move. Cue the collective groan from all the Johnny Giavotella fans. Getz was back in the clubhouse on Friday after spending the past three-plus weeks at Triple-A Omaha, and he said he believes the Royals are still in contention in the American League Central. The...

Giavotealla sent down, Getz and Herrera back up

KANSAS CITY, Mo. The Johnny Giavotella tryoutexperiment lasted just 10 days and 34 at bats. Less than a full month after the Royals optioned struggling second baseman Chris Getz to Triple-A Omaha and called up Giavotella, a fan favorite, the Royals flipped the two players again Thursday. Giavotella is back in Omaha, and Getz was recalled along with right-hander Kelvin Herrera...

Royals’ GM Dayton Moore on post-break philosophy: ‘We’re going to keep pushing’

It’s a grim math that awaits the Royals when they return Friday night from the All-Star break with the first of three key weekend games against first-place Detroit at Kauffman Stadium. A disastrous five-game skid just prior to the break positions the Royals at 43-49 and a season-high eight games behind the Tigers with the July 31 non-waiver trading deadline fast approaching. ...

Dayton Moore: 'We're not going to back off'

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- With all the talk these days about whether the Royals are going to be buyers or sellers as the July 31 trade deadline approaches, Royals general manager Dayton Moore is adamant that the Royals won't be raising any white flag to the 2013 season. "Our philosophy isn't going to change just because we're six games under," Moore told FOXSportsKansasCity...

Second half story lines for the Royals

The Royals needed the All-Star break to refresh and regroup after losing five straight games. Kansas City now has a record of 43-49 and sits eight games behind the first place Tigers. The second half of the season should offer up many story lines for the Royals. Here are a few worth highlighting: Can Eric Hosmer continue his hot hitting? After a very slow start, especially in the...

Pedro Ciriaco Nabbed By KC, Heads To AAA

The Kansas City Royals have acquired Pedro Ciriaco off waivers from the San Diego Padres. Ciriaco will be assigned to the Royals AAA farm club. Pedro was a Yankee-Killer for Boston in 2012—and ended up hitting .293 overall for the Carmine Hose that year with 16 steals. We wish him all the best with his new team.

Royals 1, Tigers 0

Ervin Santana could be traded before the end of the month, and his superb effort Friday might make some contenders interested. Santana allowed two singles in 7 1-3 innings and the Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 1-0 on Friday night to snap a five-game losing streak. The third-place Royals are seven games behind the first-place Tigers. Santana, who can be a free agent...

Media plays into Dayton Moore’s hand

by John Viril— Kansas City Royals GM Dayton Moore insisted that he was committed to winning this season during the All-Star break, touching off a firestorm of protest from pundits across the internet. Writer after writer insisted that the Kansas City Royals needed to be sellers and that Dayton Moore was being unrealistic and had learned nothing from the past. I wrote that Dayton...

Santana pitches gem as Royals open second half with 1-0 win over Tigers

Royals pitcher Ervin Santana announced to the world early Friday through Twitter that, “I’m ready for a great second half.” This qualifies, at least, as great start. Santana worked 71/3 innings Friday before Kelvin Herrera and Greg Holland closed out a 1-0 victory over Detroit in what, for the Royals anyway, was the start to a key three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. “We...
