The D’Backs continued on with their busy offseason with signing utility man Willie Bloomquist to a one-year, $1.05 million deal with a mutual option for 2012 on Thursday. Bloomquist, who went to school at Arizona State, spent last season with the Royals and Reds where he combined to hit .267 with three home runs and 17 RBI in 83 games. In 2009, he had a career-high in stolen bases in 25 while in Cincinnati.
The 33-year-old has played every position except for pitcher and catcher in each of the past two seasons. Last season, Bloomquist played three games at first base, six at second, 11 at third, one at short, nine in left, eight in center and 27 in right. With his guaranteed contract and his ability to play so many positions, he will more than likely get one of the final roster spots during spring training.
