Here’s Mike Axisa’s take on Randy Winn following Wednesday’s game:

The dude is toast. Greg Golson can provide the same (or better) defense and baserunning, and at least offers a chance at being a non-zero with the bat for close to one-third of the cost.

While I do get that Winn has yet to notch a hit as a Yankee, or do anything else (e.g., steal a base, etc.), I think we need to remember that the 35-year old has only had 10 at-bats. No substantive evaluation can be made after 10 very sporadic at-bats, cobbled together, seemingly at random, over a three-week period (his first start was on April 15, well after Opening Day). A full-time player only a season ago, I think it is evident Winn might need some time to adjust to his new part-time role, and perhaps we are seeing him do that now (as ugly as it may be). Regardless of money owed, I would much rather take Randy Winn’s production – or his impending production, in this case – over Greg Golson, who has done absolutely nothing at the Major League level, and owns a .264/.309/.397 line in the minors.
