It appears Major League Baseball wasn't buying the "just pitching inside" excuse.
MLB announced Tuesday that Red Sox starting pitcher Ryan Dempster has been suspended five games and fined an undisclosed amount for "intentionally throwing at" Alex Rodriguez Sunday night.
Dempster has denied it was intentional.
There's no word yet on whether Dempster plans to appeal the decision. Dempster is in line to start Saturday against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. If Dempster were to appeal, with the Red Sox off days coming up, it's possible Dempster could avoid missing any starts.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi was also fined for his blow up Sunday night which resulted in his ejection.
