New York Yankees Derek Jeter has started more baseball activities in his continued rehab at Tampa, Florida minor league complex. Jeter starting fielding grounders hit directly at him as well as swinging a bat. Derek had been with the team through their last homestand and was seen playing catch in the outfield. The Captain is scheduled to see the surgeon who performed the original surgery, Dr. Robert Anderson, in Charlotte, N.C. sometime this week. Anderson is expected to view the new CT scan during the exam. New York hasn’t given a definitive time line for the 39 year old shortstop’s return. The 13-time All-Star has had his most frustrating season ever in Pinstripes. Jeter originally broke the left ankle in last year’s American League Championship and fractured it again during Spring Training this season. Jeter has openly declined to put a time-line on his return as well. “As soon as possible. That’s it,” Jeter said as reported by “I’m not going to put a date on it. The las...

Jeter back on the field

Derek Jeter was scheduled to meet with his surgeon this week in Charlotte, NC as part of a follow up examination on his injured ankle. He apparently had that meeting over the weekend, and received some good news. Jeter took 25 dry-swings and fielded grounders right at him on Monday in Tampa, according to Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York. This represents a step in the right direction...

Yankees Lose But, Before The Game, Cano Wins

With CC Sabathia once again pitching poorly in Oakland and the Athletics continuing their hot streak at home, last night's Yankee loss was as predictable as it was painful.  Something that was not predictable was the announcement before the game that Robinson Cano had been named AL captain of this year's Home Run Derby.I would have thought that last year's horrible experience...

J.R. Murphy Promoted to Scranton

J.R. Murphy is headed to the Electric City. “Murphy’s outta here, he’s gone to Scranton,” Tony Franklin told me during his post-game media session. “A lot of people think he’s a pretty good player and that it’s time for him to move on.” The loss of J.R. Murphy to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders is a difficult blow for the Trenton Thunder. After spending his off...

- Michael Pineda is one step closer to a return after a successful outing in the Florida State League: - Kevin Youkilis missed Sunday's game in Seattle with lower back stiffness, but the injury isn't anything major. “It’s nothing like it was before,” Youkilis said. “Just needs a little rest.” - And in case you missed it, Chien Ming Wang opted out of his...

Captain cleared for baseball activities

Derek Jeter and the Yankees received good news on Thursday after the Captain met with his surgeon, Dr. Robert Anderson in North Carolina. The soon-to-be 39 year old shortstop has been cleared for baseball activities. Jeter  tried to make it back for Opening Day this season but couldn’t after on-going soreness and an X-ray revealed a small crack in the surgically repaired ankle...

Mariano Rivera Continues MLB Farewell Tour, Surprises A’s Employee With Pizza (Photo)

Mariano Rivera will hang up the spikes after this season, and the surefire Hall of Famer is being sure to give back before he calls it a career. Rivera already took the time to meet with and sign autographs for a large group of Cleveland Indians team staff back in April. On Wednesday, during his final regular-season trip to Oakland, the closer arrived at Coliseum with a surprise...

Can We Be Honest?

This will be the easiest and most accurate prediction I have made in the last 20 years:The Yankees recent draft will not yield a single player of value for the Yankees.Read all the scouting reports you want;  listen to the radio waves; follow them on the minor league sites;  do whatever investigative work baseball fans do.The Yankees recent draft will not yield a single player...
