At least five teams have contacted Derek Lowe about the right hander pitching for them in 2013. Lowe, 39, still believes he can serve as a big league starter and has turned down those offers. Teams contacting Lowe have asked about him being a swing man.
āIāve heard the same thing from everyone,ā Lowe said. āI want to be a starter and feel I have a lot left in being a regular starter in a rotation and making my 30-plus starts. I can still do that. Itās frustrating to see other starters who have come off injuries get a shot, and Iāve never been hurt and can still help a team. Iām sure things will get going for me in January. I want to pitch. Iām nowhere near ready to retire.ā
Lowe split last season between the Indians and Yankees. Lowe finished 2012 with a 9-11 record and a 5.11 ERA. He made 21 starts for the Indians and appeared in 17 games as a reliever for the Yankees.
