American League hitters haven't gotten to Los Angeles Angels right-hander Ernesto Frieri yet. But he knows they will.

"I know tomorrow or maybe the next day I'm going to give up a run -- because I'm not perfect. I'm a human," Frieri said after converting his 10th save since being traded to the Angels on May 3. "Whenever that happens, I'll be fine. I just hope it doesn't cost the game."

It hasn't happened yet -- but it was close Thursday. Frieri allowed consecutive hits for the first time as an Angel, leadoff singles by Jeff Mathis and Brett Lawrie with the Angels trying to close out a two-run lead in the ninth inning at Rogers Centre. After a strikeout, Frieri walked major-league home run leader Jose Bautista to load the bases for Edwin Encarnacion, who has hit 22 home runs of his own.

Frieri got two strikes on Encarnacion then got him to bounce a slider to shortstop Erick Aybar for a game-ending double play.

"Everybody's getting ready for me. They know me now," Frieri said. "They know I throw my fastball a lot. They're looking for fastball all the time now.

"I'm no Mariano Rivera -- a guy who pitched for 17, 18 years just using one pitch (his legendary cutter). I'm not like that. I wish. I know I have to make adjustments. That's the way baseball is."

Frieri has not allowed a run in 23 1/3 innings as an Angel and has struck out 40 of the 91 batters he has faced in that time, allowing just six hits.

"Ernie's just done an incredible job for us wherever we've used him, whether it's in the middle, setting up or closing," manager Mike Scioscia said. "He's gotten out of some scrapes, but he's doing well."
