Detroit Tigers' Breakout Slugger Dealing with Mild Hamstring Strain

While there's no official timeline on his return to action, it's fair to assume that he'll be out at least a few days. The Tigers begin Grapefruit League action on Friday.

The 26-year-old broke out in 2023, hitting 20 home runs for the Tigers while posting a .278 batting average. He made his major league debut in 2022 and has 26 career homers and 74 RBI.

He was a 19th-round pick of the Tigers back in the 2019 draft out of Virginia Tech and has become a surprisingly big part of their lineup. 

Detroit is looking to contend in the American League Central in 2024 and will look for Carpenter to take continued strides forward. In addition to his productivity, the team will be counting on steps forward from youngsters Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson. They've also brought in veterans Gio Urshela and Mark Canha.

Furthermore, the Tigers will be hoping for a healthy year from their pitching staff. The trio of Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal and Matt Manning has never been able to stay healthy at the same time, but they will look for that in 2024. The team also signed righties Kenta Maeda and Jack Flaherty to deals this offseason.
