There was a lot of talk, and lot of rumors, and quite possibly a late run at Alfonso Soriano that may still get a deal done. However, at the non waiver trade deadline the Detroit Tigers failed to add the right handed bat this team needs. They failed to add a middle of the order bat that could help spark an offense that has yet again gone stone cold. The Tigers are in a funk, and a big trade deadline day kind of move could have helped inspire the team and its fans. Instead General Manger Dave Dombrowski comes up empty and the Tigers lost another game, this time to Mother Nature herself. Keep Reading

Detroit Tigers trade rumors: deadline day deal?

The Detroit Tigers head into the final day of the MLB non-waiver trade deadline with a choice to make. Dropping 5 of 7 on their current homestand has fans in the Motor City uneasy yet again. The decision has boiled down to whether this team should add one final piece to the puzzle. So far, the trade with the Miami Marlins has left much to be desired. Anibal Sanchez got torched north...

Game 2012.104: Tigers at Red Sox

Detroit Tigers, 54-49, 2nd place, 1.5 back. With the trade deadline past and the Tigers standing pat, perhaps it is time once more to look at the Detroit DH situation.  The Tigers still rank 13th of 14 teams in DH performance, which is exactly where they stood when we looked at this a couple of months ago.  Tiger DHs have combined for a .248 average and a measly .646 OPS, underwhelmed...

Alfonso Soriano Wanted Cubs Trade To Dodgers

Alfonso Soriano was waiting around the phones prior to Tuesday’s MLB Trade Deadline, just wondering whether or not he would be traded to a contender. The 4 PM deadline came and went, and Soriano remained in blue pinstripes. But it was not because he didn’t want to leave. The 36-year-old outfielder is still owed $44 million over the next two plus seasons. That is...

Justin Verlander Enjoys Using Twitter But Takes Caution Before Hitting Send (Video)

Twitter has worked it's way into the lives of many professional athletes, but some are still hesitant to jump aboard the latest trend. Meanwhile, Jim Rice and Matt Stairs both are glad they never had such an outlet during their playing days. Check...

Tigers' Young hopes to reach deal in NYC case

Detroit Tigers outfielder Delmon Young is trying to work out a deal with prosecutors in his hate-crime harassment case, his lawyer said Thursday. Young appeared briefly in a Manhattan court Thursday for an update on the misdemeanor case. He's accused of yelling anti-Jewish epithets at a group of tourists, tussling with them and tackling one to the ground in April, when the Tigers...

Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder homered on consecutive pitches to cap a five-run fifth inning Wednesday night, and the Detroit Tigers beat the Boston Red Sox 7-5 to avoid a three-game sweep. Delmon Young added a solo homer for Detroit, which won for just the second time in seven games. Carl Crawford hit a solo homer for the Red Sox, who had a four-game winning streak halted....

Three Post-Waiver Trade Targets: Hitters

Alfonso Soriano Soriano’s power remains alive in his age-36 season. The sixth-year Cub owns a .499 slugging percentage thanks to 19 home runs and 22 doubles in 359 at-bats for a .226 ISO. This year, the hits are falling in as well, giving him a solid .272/.322/.499 line, enough for a 113 wRC+. Although his 2.9 WAR is inflated by an extremely iffy +12 UZR, he’s having a productive...

Red Sox Must Tame Tigers' Anger After Being Awarded Questionable Win (Video)

The Red Sox won on Tuesday night, but just barely. Thanks to the umpires' decision to end the game despite a serious mounting threat from Detroit, the Sox ride a four-game winning streak into Wednesday's series finale. That had Tigers manager Jim Leyland fuming after the game but still was pretty subdued, so the Sox should probably be expecting something wild in response...

Red Sox Finally Break Through Off Justin Verlander After Doing Everything Except Score (Video)

It took long enough, but the Red Sox finally plated a run against Justin Verlander. In fact, they plated quite a few. After allowing multiple baserunners, dealing with the rain and a difficult strike zone, Verlander finally succumbed to the Red Sox attack in the fourth inning. To which NESN Nation's Dan Duquette says: about time. See more in the video above. Join NESN Nation...
