Ian Kennedy pitched neatly into the eighth inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks used an unearned run to beat Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 on Tuesday night. Arizona left fielder Jason Kubel robbed Luis Cruz of a two-run homer with a leaping grab at the wall to end the fifth inning. The lone run came in the seventh, when Paul Goldschmidt reached on shortstop Hanley Ramirez's throwing error and scored from first on Miguel Montero's double. With San Francisco's win at Colorado, the Dodgers fell six games behind the first-place Giants in the NL West. Arizona ended a six-game losing streak. Kennedy (13-11) gave up four hits in 7 1-3 innings, striking out six and walking none. Kershaw (12-9) allowed three hits, striking out five and walking three in seven innings. He is 0-2 in his last three starts despite allowing a combined three earned runs. After regular closer J.J. Putz blew consecutive saves last week, David Hernandez came on in the ninth and gave ...

My 2012 Los Angeles Dodgers' minor league Players of the Year

It was an interesting year in the Dodgers' farm system. The team made a bunch of trades that hurt the system's depth. In fact, they traded away the likely winner of this award, Leon Landry, in the Brandon League deal. Hitter of the Year OF Joc Pederson, Rancho Cucamonga .313/.396/.516, 18 HR, 70 RBI, 96 R, 26 SB - Pederson started off the season slowly, hitting...

Kennedy holds Dodgers scoreless again

PHOENIX The Diamondbacks found a good time to reprise 2011. Ian Kennedy was unbeatable. The bullpen, unflappable. The D-backs did most the little things right, and a few big things, too. They exploited the one crack in the Los Angeles Dodgers' defense to score in the seventh inning, two innings after left fielder Jason Kubel took a two-run home run away from Luis Cruz. They...

Injury Roll Call: Kershaw, Jansen, Billingsley, Choate, Kennedy, Guerra, Hairston, Withrow

Clayton Kershaw was scratched from his last start due to a hip injury, for which he received a cortisone shot. His start was taken by Joe Blanton. Clayton hopes to return and start on Tuesday. —– Kenley Jansen, barring any unforeseen setback, will pitch again this season before undergoing offseason surgery on his heart. He... Read More »

Kershaw matches Kennedy, but Dodgers fall

PHOENIX (AP) -- Ian Kennedy pitched neatly into the eighth inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks used an unearned run to beat Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 on Tuesday night. Dee Gordon activated from disabled list, not returning to starting lineup yet

The Dodgers have activated Dee Gordon from the disabled list and recalled him back to the Dodgers roster, but not as a starter. To make room for Gordon on the roster, the Dodgers moved Adam Kennedy to the 60-day disabled list, removing him from the 40-man roster. Dee Gordon, who has been shelved with a thumb injury for about 8 weeks returns to action, but with Hanley Ramirez cemented...

D-backs use unearned run to beat Dodgers

Making Moves: Paco Is First 2012 Draftee To Debut + Castellanos, Wall, Abreu Called Up

Paco Rodriguez, the lefty reliever out of University Of Florida and the Dodgers‘ second round pick in 2012, was recalled to replace the injured Chad Billingsley, who found himself on the 60-day DL with his elbow injury that may require offseason surgery. Rodriguez becomes the first 2012 draftee to debut in The Show. —– Bobby... Read More »

Kennedy battles banged-up Dodgers

While the banged-up Los Angeles Dodgers surely could have used Clayton Kershaw in their last game, they're hoping he - and Matt Kemp - are both good to go Tuesday night. Kershaw is penciled in to start the opener of this two-game set between the Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks, who will be trying to avoid losing seven in a row at home for the first time in six seasons. Scheduled...

Why Arizona's Miley should be NL Rookie of Year

There are several candidates for the National League Rookie of the Year award, although one choice appears easy. If BBWAA voters believe in pitching, Diamondbacks left-hander Wade Miley is the only option. Miley leads major leagues rookies with 15 victories after beating San Diego on Saturday, and his 3.07 ERA and 1.15 WHIP lead all rookie qualifiers. Texas right-hander Yu Darvish...

Cahill leads Diamondbacks over Dodgers

PHOENIX (AP) -- Justin Upton and Gerardo Parra hit consecutive RBI singles to support Trevor Cahill's seven strong innings, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 on Wednesday night. The Dodgers, losers of six of their past seven, squandered a chance to pull even with St. Louis for the second NL wild-card spot. The Cardinals lost 3-2 to San Diego earlier...

Diamondbacks 3, Dodgers 2

D-backs finish season domination of Dodgers

PHOENIX If the Diamondbacks had played the rest of the league like they played the Los Angeles Dodgers this season, the NL wild card race would be a lot wilder than it is right now. It might even be a fall-back position. The series has been that lopsided. The D-backs have pushed the Dodgers around this season, both the older and more expensive versions, and Wednesday was no different...

A GIF Representation Of My Thoughts On A-Gon’s Backwards K, With Help From Trauma Dog

Yesterday, with the Dodgers down by one run and the tying run on second in the top of the ninth, Adrian Gonzalez struck out … because of course. It unfortunately reminded me of Carlos Beltran‘s infamous at-bat against Adam Wainwright in the NLCS, though obviously nowhere near as dramatic. With the help of who I... Read More »

Dodgers Owner Peter Guber Right To Preach Patience, But They Traded To “Send Signals”?

Dodgers owner Peter Guber encouraged fans to keep the optimism because the trade with the Red Sox was for more than just this season, which is indeed the rational thing to recognize. However, what the hell did he mean by saying they did it to “send signals”? “It’s not fair to judge anything for almost... Read More »

Cardinals-Dodgers Preview

Despite struggling of late, both the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers remain in good position to claim the second wild-card berth in the NL. With a one-game lead over the Dodgers for that spot, the Cardinals look to avoid a fourth straight loss overall and fifth consecutive defeat at Chavez Ravine on Thursday night. Hoping for the chance to defend its World Series title...
